It's my first time trying to grow hops. I planted 3 rhizomes. One is growing pretty well (I think). Nothing out of the other two. Anyways, my question is does anyone know where you can buy hop plants that have already started growing? It's too late to start over from rhizomes. I haven't been able to find anything on the web.

Google High Hops Brewery & Great Lakes Hop Plants. I've ordered from both sources and out of 17 varieties I got this yr all are doing well. I have 3 hops on top of the 17 that I grew from rhizomes & personally I haven't noticed any major differences.

Word of advice, I lost two plants in the past due to receiving them smaller than desired. Long story short I planted them before they had the time to mature.

Over the years I've lost 3 or 4 rhizomes. So the success rate is pretty high for hop plants if you don't rush to planting the stunted ones, which are not very common to get.

Also a good tip, when a plant shows new growth sometimes the orginal shoot can die off or remain dominant. This is normal and the new shoot will out grow the orginal one. Pruning truly can help plants thrive. I almost lost a plant due to an older plant getting downy mildew and it effected a new plants growth. Pruning saved the newly planted hop plant.

Good luck. Theyre fun to grow.

Check higher end nurseries. There is a place near me called tagawa gardens. Last weekend they had a half off sale on remaining hop plants. Picked up 2 well established centennial bines for$20. They also had willamette, cascade, and mt hood. I almost picked up the mt hood, but decided centennial would be a better choice for my style.

my local whole foods had a bunch of american varietals about 3 feet. I've grown em for 2 years now. Dug up my golding because it was garbage for my climate. Might work in Mass though.

A 15 foot trellis helps too.

To tack on to this thread with a dumb-ish question:
I have a rhizome of Nugget I planted a couple months ago. Looked to be some buds on there, so though nothing of it and in the ground it went.
Nothing has happened at this point. I dug it up, there are no buds on there, but it didn;t seem dried out, so I stuck it back into the ground.
Is this a waste; is this guy dead or could I possibly see some activity later on.
I planted 2 rhizomes of Cascade at the same time, and they are both growing.
