    East coast is where I saw this too. Some places elsewhere do it this way so you are filling a clean one for sure, but then they have to clean them, Ed. Added time and expense for them.

    Also why I stopped getting growlers. I don't need a ton of them. And they usually cost too much to fill around here. I have a couple to use if needed. I even had a coupon for a free empty growler at beer grotto and I never made it there in the Minh to get it.

    Growler - 64oz
    Howler - 32oz (half growler) also seen else called a lot of weird things like growlettes, bullets, can't think of the rest
    Crowler - 32oz sealed can

    No returnables here (well other than bringing it back to displace that air with more beer).
