Does anyone know if it is legal for stores to have growler fill stations in Connecticut?

    Thanks for the help!

My understanding is that the laws are rather ambiguous on this front (in terms of label requirements, what constitutes a "sealed" container, etc), and no one has taken the chance to see if it would fly.

Theoretical legality aside, the current practice in the state is that fresh-filled growlers can only be sold by beer producers - i.e., breweries and brewpubs, and the latter only sell growlers of the beers that they have personally made.

Package stores, however, do sell pre-filled, fully labeled, shrink-wrapped growlers. From all I've heard, there doesn't appear to be anything specifically prohibiting a store from repackaging a keg into growlers, provided they sold them sealed and fully labeled. No one has done this, though, and there's certainly a chance that the on-site repackaging might run afoul of certain tax requirements or something of the sort.

This is an issue that really could use some legislative clarification.
