    Societe and Bruery fill blanks.

Yeah, but I said other breweries' growlers. I took a blank into Societe where I had chipped all the artwork off, but they wouldn't fill it because you could see the ghosted image if you look carefully. That's thoroughly useless.

I guess it isn't really going to get anywhere. The cool breweries won't change their minds because they don't need the business.

That sounds like they're just making sure they don't get in trouble. If you can still see the logo, then it's technically not legal. I'm not sure if they fill growlers with covered logos, but they definitely fill blanks. Hell, they sold me my blank SS 1L.

I realize what you said, but breweries that fill blanks don't belong in the same category as breweries who won't fill anything except their own.

Gotta give Stone props. They're the biggest brewery in Southern California and they've expanded their policy.

They're all breweries that want to make me buy a new growler (I don't have any blanks besides the ones I used CLR on to rub paint off) -- to wit, useless.

Agree on Stone being pretty cool about it. But I guess no one else is really going to change at this point. I'm just throwing out all my old growlers except a couple of local favorites.

Well, I finally took an old Port growler (with tape around it) to Bottle Logic yesterday and filled Recursion 1.1 (delicious by the way). No extra charge, no hassle, no questioned asked. I will be taking that growler to Bottle Logic whenever I'm in that area or they have something good to fill. Cheers to Bottle Logic!

Far from useless - if every brewery filled blanks then you'd need a few blanks and be set everywhere. Investing in a blank growler is not the same as buying a growler you can only use at one brewery. We'd all love to see breweries fill anything, but if they all agreed to fill blanks that would be just as good.

I at societe not too long ago and they didn't fill blanks. Are you sure societe does? If so that's awesome!

They sell their own stainless steel growlers that come in a blank option but I'm not sure if they will fill other blank growlers. I would guess no based on how anal they can be.

Got 3 growlers (two 32 oz Valiants, one 64 oz Bootleggers) filled at Cellarmaker with no problem. Just cut the duct tape and slapped over the logos. Don't know what is so complicated.

They do, must be blank swingtops.

They do. As mentioned above, blank SS or blank swingtops.

Cellarmaker, Knee Deep and Stone have some damn fine offerings.

San Diego seems to be coming along, for the most part. Hey SD Brewer's Guild how about a universal growler with support from members? Is a buck here or five bucks there worth the cost of carrying an inventory of glass from the brewers perspective? I doubt it, well maybe Ballast Point with thier aggressive glass pricing, ha ha.

See 'growler grumblings' in this months issue of WestCoasterSD for an update here in San Diego.

We'll agree to disagree. Anything that makes me spend another dollar on a container that is hardly different from the other 50 I own, is at least buttfuckingly stupid, if not useless - agreed?

Disagree, you could paint one. Here is a Stone one I sanded and painted.
I also scraped a KRBC growler perfectly clean with a razor blade.

Sunk Cost my friend. Nobody is going to give you a refund for those 50, and no reasonable person could fill all 50 at once, but if you had 5 blanks that you could fill everywhere moving forward? That's progress.

FYI; dipping a growler in double concentrated star san solution over night will strip the acrylic paint on all glass growlers !
