Plenty of times. Its fine. It also stays cold because the hold isn't temp controlled like the passenger space. Just pad the hell out of it and tape it up.

I haven't, but I did know someone who was a baggage handler at the airport. He said they would toss around the bags pretty hard, they were not careful with them. So I would prepare for that.

This is what I tend to go by but I find it crazy some beers still trade for high end stuff weeks and months after the growler was filled

I've kept growlers for months with no issue. I do check the cap when I get them back in my hands after filling to make sure the cap is super tight, and I do keep them in the dark.
No problems with carbonation, only the usual hop character fading out over time - I don't normally keep growlers of IPAs long. I have one of Jack's Abby Coffee smoke and dagger in the fridge, and one of their Bourbon Barrel Lashes lager in my cellar that I should get around to cracking one of these days.

I used to work ramp/baggage handling for an airline. Bags do get tossed around pretty good during their travels to the plane and then to the baggage claim area. But, you could probably say that about shipped packages as well? As long as you come prepared and pack the beer very well you will be just fine. Take note that not only does your bag get tossed around. But, your bag could also end up underneath about 6 or more other suitcases during its travels. Both during it's travels to and from the plane as well as on the plane. Trust me, it's like putting together a puzzle loading those planes and baggage carts.

I just popped a HF growler of Susan that was a couple of weeks old. Tasted the same as at the brewery. In my experience, hose-filling seems to be totally unnecessary as long as the growler is pumped full of CO2 prior to filling. I used to cringe at non-bottom-filled growlers, until I realized this. And the hose is just another place where improper sanitation can mess with the end product.

Thanks for the replies. I´ll be taking a growler home to share with friends after my vacation.

    I do.
    twist cap growlers 2-3 days.
flip top growlers ( much better) stay for up to 5 days.

but I'm laughing to myself thinking who the F lets a growler sit for 2-3 days?

I had a growler of Mayan Apocalypse about a month ago, screw top.

I opened it a week after purchasing, and it was fine. Took me about 7 days to drink through, and it seemed fine the entire time. Carbonation was good throughout.

Not sure if abv has anything to do with how well it holds up?

I have had them up to a couple of months, maybe a little longer.

I remember when it was on kickstarter, and looks like a good concept. I might buy it IF I see it in a store. As for the OP's question - Once opened, I've notices a lot of loss of carbonation even though it was filled really well. Unopened - most breweries/ growler places say a couple weeks. I do think some of the beers that you can cellar, might be aged in a growler (if it is filled right.) I might have to try this once as an experiment.

With growlers I try to keep it simple. I drink them as soon as I can with a friend. This keeps me out of it before work (usually).

Personally, I never get a growler fill unless I am going to drink it in the next 3 days. I see others say otherwise, but once opened I prefer to consume in one night. Occasionally, I will finish the next night, and I always feel like it is not as good. But that's just me. Fill them and drink them I say, preferably in the same day.

So a growler sealed correctly would survive an hour's drive home then without problems?

It better survive a lot longer than that or I am taking it back to where I bought it.
