I'm planning on buying a 64oz stainless insulated growler for summer travel purposes. I'm seeing them in both screw cap as well as a swing lock. Is there a noticeable difference in how fresh the beer stays? I'm assuming temp. retention will be about the same. vs
I myself have a screw top stainless as do many of my friends. It still gets a really good seal. Few of my friends swear by the hydro flask.....safe bet
I have had issues with the hydro flask keeping a seal. I have heard others have had this issue as well.
I find the Flip-Top Growlers seal much better than the Screw-Top but then again, my flip-top cost me $60 and my screw-top was $20.
Should be of some help: http://www.backpacker.com/gear/reviews/tested-the-best-outdoor-beer-growlers-of-2015/ http://coloradohiking.org/2015/05/growler-comparison-review-outdoor-gear-tv/
We are only allowed to use growlers purchased from the brewery or growler station (VT). I have wanted to get a SS insulated, but would only be able to use it for my homebrew, or transfer on my own, which doesn't seem worth it to me at this point.
Without knowing where you are from, not sure what is available, but I have one of these that I picked up from Whole Foods http://www.brew-tek.com/products/drinkfresh-growlers/ . These can be purchased from businesses that buy them and have them personalized. Advantage of this growler is you can recharge it with Co2 to help preserve it
Just make sure your state allows breweries to fill SS growlers if you plan to bring it somewhere to get filled.
You cannot fill Stainless Growlers with the counter pressure bottle filler because you cannot see through the Stainless. I only fill growlers up from a vendor that uses the counter pressure system becuase the beer stays fresh for weeks!
I did not know you couldn't use a counter pressure system with those. Thank you for that. Not that I was in the market for one but that's a deal breaker for when I'd have inevitably considered getting one without knowing that.
It sure does. And I can vouch about metal containers not being able to be filled on a counter pressure system - the place I get my [glass] growlers filled has a counter pressure system and sells Crowlers but fills the Crowlers up straight from the tap.
