Yeah I didn't comment on the cost above, said beer would have to be epic unless it came with a happy ending. That is way past my price threshold. I have seen places do this to prevent growler pours so they will continue to have the beer a while, but not sure if that is the case here.

As far as your car smelling like beer, get used to it. I had two bottles of Mystic Entropy pop in my car (minutes apart) and it still faintly smells like beer (especially the passenger seat). This was batch one so...2012 maybe? Or maybe 2013. Anyway, it's been a while.

At least it smells good. If I get pulled over I'm screwed though.

important to point out it wasn't their glass, it was an old Ballast Point growler. Also I actually am ok with their growler pricing but won't be filling up often. Yesterday they had a $13 grolsch, 4 beers for 16 and then some premium dipa for like 28.. many brewers don't fill their premium beers at all and i've seen people point out that they should and just price it accordingly, which make sense.

The glass was likely weak, on bad growlers you will often see there is a color change where the wall of the glass is thinner due to either a bad glass mold or it cooled improperly, same rules apply to growlers as with glass bottles, if you look at the glass and it looks variegated with a much lighter brown ring that is likely a weak spot in the glass where it is thinner/less strong.

Happened to me last month. 1L fill + the growler itself was $36. I called the brewery the next day and they ended up replacing everything plus a bottle of their newest quad ipa. If you call (and are not an asshole about it) I bet they would at least replace it.

I called, they weren't assholes about it. They didn't offer to replace and I wouldn't have asked since it wasn't their glass and I was nowhere near them. Suppose if it happened on premises they'd have done so.

Did it take a hard ding in the sink when washing or another bottle tapping it in just the right spot would be my first question.
