Just got an email from Victoria Gastropub that growlers are allowed in MD now. Anyone know the particulars of the law? Is it just Howard County?
It's not just Howard, but I'm not sure it's state wide either. Max's has pretty much always allowed growler fills, and they're in the city. On the other hand, to the best of my knowledge, nothing new has happened at State Line. They discontinued growler fills several years ago, and the last time I spoke to Robert there, he indicated they were still waiting for further clarification as to how the proposed new law would effect them. He's been chomping at the bit to start up growler sales again, ever since they were forced to discontinue them. Of course State Line is a lliquor store, not a restaurant or pub, and if I recall correctly, the new law only affects restaurants.
A law was recently passed in Howard County, not sure on other counties. The Howard County law went into effect on July 1st but to date I have not seen anyone taking advantage and offering growlers. I am sure it is not state-wide. Was at State Line Liquors in Elkton last Saturday and they had petitions to sign to allow growler fills. I bet if you call them they can give you a better answer on the state laws.
Was just going to say this. I got an email from them saying they would be offered. On a side note does anyone know what the prices on growlers at Max's go for? Can you get anything they have on draft in a growler?
Here's an article about the petition. Definitely signing when I go up there in a few weeks. http://www.cecildaily.com/business/article_de23f684-0788-11e2-a456-0019bb2963f4.html
To the best of my knowledge, you can get a growler of anything there. It can be kind of annoying, as I was there a few weeks back when some dude came in with two growlers, wanting them both filled with BCBS. The bar tender was going to fill em too, but the keg kicked before the second growler could be filled. As for prices, I honestly can't help you. The last time I got a growler there, it was Nugget Nectar, and the price on that day was $22. However, previously when I got a couple growlers of Shmaltz rye DIPA, the price was considerably cheaper. As for the BCBS, I think I overheard that the price was $28 (which I think is an absolute deal). If the cost matters to you, then it would be my recommendation that you call in advance to find out what the price is for the beer you want, and be sure you talk to the bartender you spoke to on the phone when you get there. Regarding previous posts about growler fills in Howard County, I'm fairly certain that T'bonz in Ellicott City is now filling growlers as well. Cheers!
