I've heard that the older batch of Guava Grove is funkier, but also possibly infected. I'm curious what the difference are between the two batches. Any insight would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I heard that too (some infected). Infected could mean improperly stored or someone not familiar with farmhouse tastes too. The pic of the Guava grove on the review page is last years I believe. I have both. So, I know the labels are different.

Guava Grove, as it is now, is basically what the original batches were. Somewhere along the way, a batch got infected. It turned out pretty well, so they released it and intentionally soured some more batches. I believe they switched back to the non-soured version some time last summer.

I've had the sour version a couple times and really enjoyed it. I'm down to one bottle and will be sad to see it go.

What this guy said...it was an accident that turned into a good reproducible beer. They took out the sour program though so they had to switch back to the original.

I prefer the old version since it's a little sour and not just str8 up funk

Wait, what??? CCB has done away with sour beers altogether? Am I reading this right? If so, that's a shame. I rather liked some of their sours.

Yep, its old news...with the expansion and all the QC issues they were having of shit getting infected because some bugs stayed behind they decided to do away with it...for now. Their sours were good except for vuja de so I bet they'll pick it up again once its a more feasible option. Right now they're concentrating their efforts on expanding to meet more of the demand for the beers they already sell well. The best sours I tried from them had wakefield involved in them somehow though.

I read somewhere, I have spent the last 30 minutes looking, that they are going back tot he orginal yeast strain for Guava Grove. Not sure what it means, I had a GG about 3 yrs ago and is was definetly sour. I have one I just picked up this past weekend. I will let you know how it is.
