I tend to go on style binges for weeks or months at a time and I'm planning on exploring gueuzes and lambics soon. Other than Lindeman's, what's available in Texas that's easy - moderately difficult to find? I'm currently back and forth from the Fort Worth area to Austin/San Antonio.

Timmermans "Oude Gueuze Limited Edition" - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2791/49913 , is the only other gueuze I have seen in Texas besides Lindeman's Cuvee Rene. Beyond those two, I believe everything else is either sweetened with aspartame, or flash pasteurized and back sweetened.

^agreed ElkSherpa. Also I have heard about Lindeman's using aspartame to sweeten their lambics(not the Cuvee Rene or the black labeled one) but did you find any actual proof that they do?

If you really want to explore this style, I would trade for some great, but not hard to find Gueuze examples:

    Oude Gueuze Tilquin: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/25923/70745
    Drie Fonteinen Oude Gueuze: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2216/6305

Both of these are shelf beers for some parts of the US. If you are planning a trip into Louisiana anytime soon, New Orleans has a couple bottle shops that have some of the best Gueuze/Lambic selections in the US.

Thanks for the responses. My brother is in NOLA right now, but I think I stretched his beer savvy when I asked him to pick up Boulevard BBQ. He asked the Spec's beer guy for "barbeque" beer. Have to give him credit for coming through, though.

Have him go to Stein's Deli. At times, they sell Cantillon Classic Gueuze (one of the best in the world), and you should be able to find Tilquin there easily.

He should also drop by Avenue Pub...amazing place, you'll really stretch his beer knowledge! They had Cantillon Gueuze on tap when I was last there!

I (and the rest of the SA crew) have a ton of lambics that I/we need to open, so let us know when you're next in SA. 30 minutes advance-notice should suffice for me, but the rest may need a bit longer. Especially stonebrewfanatic, since he'll probably be in the middle of eating scallops.

Really appreciate the invite. I may take you up on that offer. I think I'll only be in Austin this weekend, but my wife's family is in SA, so I should be there pretty often after I move in a couple of weeks.

Just had the Timmermans for the first time last weekend...was probably the sourest beer I've ever had. Really enjoyed it.
