And in that same sense, Budweiser is not American. But nobody cares. It's all about marketing and imagery. And money, obviously.

I don't care if it's Irish or not, but it still tastes a lot better in Ireland than it does here. Prefer Murphy's though.

i used to be a fan of Guinness, i dont know if my tastes have grown up or have they changed Guinness. Guinness draught is just awful, so light and watery. for a stout its low abv and comparable to bud light, not in taste but in calories. the extra stout or the foreign stout from Guinness is o.k. but for the price you can get a better stout like youngs double chocolate stout. this is off topic but i see people are bringing it up. some brews are not really imports. but are in the import cooler for import prices. here are a few. fosters, becks, red stripe, bass, i know there are many more. its funny because they all say product of usa on the bottle, yet in the import cooler. lol. :astonished:

Oh dear, this is what happens when people write outside their subjects "The beer the company has become most famous for—porter stout—was based on a London ale"
It was because he couldn't brew ales in Dublin (perhaps because of the water) that he brought in porter brewers from London. Ale and porter brewing were two separate industries.
Guinness is intended for drinking in quantity , not just two or three 12 ounce bottles. You can't fault it for being what it is, drinking beer not sipping beer.

Which one? In the US we sometimes get the Murphy's brewed at a parent company Heineken brewery in The Netherlands, other times it's the one brewed in the UK at a former S&N brewery (like Murphy's, now Heineken-owned).

Well damn. I had no idea, went to check it, there was that little message on the bottom of the can.

I guess Killians is the only real Irish beer we get around here. :astonished:

Where's it coming from this year - Holland or the UK? I haven't checked lately.

Yup, 'cause Heineken-owned Pelforth of France would never have licensed the brand to Coors in the first place without their assurance that it would remain a real Irish ale... err.... lager.

Founded in Ireland, by an Irishman born in Ireland, and was brewed in Ireland for hundreds of years. That is Irish enough for me.

Interesting read, but does it really matter? I know people like the history and nostalgia of beer, but isnt it really about enjoying it? If you like the taste, then who cares where it's from? Similarly, if you dont like the tatse, would you drink something just because of its roots? Just a thought.

I'm not Irish, either. Guess I'll be sticking with some world class beers brewed in my home country instead.

    Darn!

People automatically associate Guinness with St. Paddy's Day due to marketing. I'll be drinking at my local craft brewery. They brewed an oyster stout and a cream stout for today's festivities.
