Any bottle of FES that I have had has been brewed in Ireland.

Guinness Extra Stout is brewed under license in Canada.

Foreign Extra Stout and Draught are brewed in Ireland. Whether either or are better than the other is a matter of opinion. I enjoy them all equally for when I get the taste.

And the men were drinking... Bushmill's?

Actually, on my first visit to the Brazen Head I watched 2 women approach the bar, order 2 Guinness draught and a Smithwick's (I believe), and when the bar-tender brought the beers the first woman paid for the 2 Guinness and pointed over her shoulder saying, "He's drinking that swill, he can pay for it."

I about spit my own Guinness onto the bar!

Who seriously gives a crap? I've got an O and an ' at the front of my last name, and a Gaelic harp tattoo, but I went to work the same as any other day, drank the same as I did yesterday and will tomorrow; didn't even eat pork, which was the original reason St. Patrick's day was a big deal, a day to eat meat in the middle of Lent, which of course meant pork to the Irish. British landlords gave out the excess corned beef to tenant farmers from the excess they produced to send to the West Indies. Fuck it, my sister is about to have a kid in Japan, our diaspora is alive and well, being of Irish decent is pretty kickass, and I don't need a bullshit holiday to prove it.

St Patrick wasn't even Irish, he was simply residing in Ireland. Perhaps Guinness is more appropriate than we know.
But personally I think Michael Collins is far more Irish, he needs a day of his own!

People get mad at me when I tell them Guinness sucks. It's literally like watered down coffee.

It may be well written but not beyond correction.
Where on earth did the notion about Guinness using roast barley come from? (It was even mentioned in the CAMRA style guide at one time) , it is a matter of record that Guinness first used roast barley around 1929/1930 and they adamantly opposed its use before then.It was an illegal ingredient before 1880 and brewers were prohibited from having any unmalted grains at all on the premises.
Guinness was a unionist. So were an awful lot of other Irishmen. Not all the Irish wanted an independent Ireland either then nor now. That's why the Irish Question and the troubles came about . But that didn't stop him being Irish any more than being British stops me from being English or my neighbour from being Welsh.

You really need to get out more. It's not even the best stout in my local area, let alone my state or country.

Absolutely! Truly one of the blandest stouts out there. I cannot believe what I am reading in this thread to be honest! It is a master class in marketing! It's all in the head. Like people claiming it tastes far superior in Ireland than anywhere else in the world. And all this love coming from the States where you have access to scores of stellar stouts.

Most people can detect sarcasm. Most people can enjoy craft beer without signing the BA Manifesto of Mainstream Intolerance

Best post I have read in a long, long time. Drink what you like, apologize for none of it.

    What is your problem?

    Here's my original post:
"Most people" would also say that those who don't like Budweiser are the uncool ones. One of the main reasons we joined BA is that we don't identify with what most people think about beer.

How do you get this "intolerance" bullshit from that??
