Figured I'd pull a Guinness Special Export from the cellar in honor of St. Patty's. I really do not remember how long ago I cellared these, but the bottle says 10-09-11 23:32. I am not sure if that means it was bottled in September 10, 2011 at 11:32 pm, or something else entirely. I really would have thought I bought them before that, but my memory is not the most trustworthy at times. Does anyone happen to know?

In any case, it is really a nice drink. It is completely opaque even when held up to the light. It is near ebony while sitting on the table and with light behind it is still a very dark mahogany. The smell has the traditional Guinness sour edge to it, coupled with bitter cocoa powder. The taste is very nice. As with the smell there is the expected signature sourness, but a lot of sweetness present as well, including some semi-sweet dark chocolate, and maybe a hint of molasses and candied prunes.

Well worth drinking. And well worth cellaring for however long I did (really wish I had kept a better record of thos one).

I had some in 2008 and 2010. I think I drank the first one fairly fresh as I noted coffee flavours in it. Your dating translation sounds right. ..

Come to think about it, I think the date is a best by date. From the bottles I've had.
