I was going to ask what it is, but I'm pretty sure I know. Some kind of beer poop candy. Let this just be a warning that Cascade corks might not facilitate side storage. The beer is from the latest release.

I've had that on a couple bottles from Odell. Don't be frightened.

I should have reported back sooner, but I'm a lazy fuck. I drank it a few nights ago and it was great!

As a general rule you should always store and cellar you beer in the upright postion... Wine goes sideways; Beer gets stood up.

I contacted the Cantillon brewery last year with the horizontal/vertical question and they recommend cellaring their bottles sideways. Thought it was worth mentioning it.

I thought it was common knowledge that places like Cantillon cellar their beer sideways, so that strongly refutes the rule. I prefer the upright way for most styles, but I have this beer/glassware thing where I put the beers that I intend on drinking.

    That's where the cascade was.

It's aides, you will be assisted to death. You must make a ridonk FT to someone who doesn't appreciate PNW breweries.

I have a lot of Cascade bottles - just noticed this "issue"/trend. Glad to hear it appears to be normal...

I currently have 2 Vlad the Impalers and 1 Blueberry in my wine rack and noticed the other day that all three had beer poop candy even though I am pretty sure none of them had any before laying them down. I stood them up but I definitely hope I get the same result and the beer is fine.

What does "FT" mean and what are "PNW breweries"? Your acronyms make my head hurt!

What a good find I just noticed my Bottleworks xiv had the same gunk and was about to start a forum. I was planning on saving this until the next DLD, should I give up on that idea and drink ASAP? I definitely won't have a chance to get another bottle of this and don't want to push my luck.

    This is not true.....

I recently spoke to two very educated people on this, one from the states and one from Belgium. I was told this " I see no reason why you can’t store beer on its side. I’ve done it for years in a Wine Cooler. Only one consideration. Some beers will throw a yeast or protein sediment if they are bottle fermented or lightly filtered. Of course, when stored on their side, the sediment will form over the length of the bottle and be disturbed when moved and opened. So you can accept the resuspended haze if a wheat type beer or store upright for 24 hours to resettle into the bottle bottom for easy decanting."

I have a vinotemp and it works perfectly for cellaring beer......
