So I was just up visiting family in NY again. I bought a bunch of cans I can't get in Jersey. Every time I'm up this store has a bunch of Gunn Hill cans and I usually buy a few different ones. I'm always impressed and I noticed a lot of their beers are rated highly, yet I never see a thread about them or anyone mentioning them on here along with the other NYC breweries. What's up with this place? Thoughts?
The craft beer store in Warwick always seems to have Gunn Hill cans. Every time they have the highly rated IPA's, I have other things to do and can't make it. Oh well, some day!
It's in the BX, so millions of hipsters aren't close enough to patronize the place and create scarcity and fawn over the beers. Also, they have deviated greatly from their early beers and brewing beers much more in line with what beer drinkers are clamoring for. I wouldn't recommend the original location, but I would encourage you to check out the Gun Hill Tavern in the South Bronx. A distillery is next door and worth a visit, if for no other reason than to try Puerto Rican moonshine, aka pitorro.
FYI, it's Gun Hill, not Gunn. Hehe. Gun Hill road in the BX is the origin of the name. Revolutionary War product.
There's definitely that, but their Foreign Style Stout (the kind of thing you don't see every day) is also really good.
There's a thread: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/gun-hill-brewing-co.416365/ Like what I've had from them. Just wish they would date their cans. Makes me apprehensive to pick them up. I'd probably try more of their stuff if they did.
I knew there was one a while back. Nothing posted on it for over two months though. I guess it didn't come up on my search because I misspelled it. Agree about the canning dates.
