I am in Gurnee for the day and I am looking for nearby bottle shops. I have Already hit Woodmans, and now I am wondering what other hot spots are nearby. Would appreciate the feedback. Thanks.
I see you posted yesterday, sorry I missed it. If you're ever back through, Wine Knows in Grayslake would have been worth the short trip. Beer Bazaar in Hainesville has a great selection and (believe it or not) the Shell station on the corner of Rt. 83 and Center in Grayslake has another great selection. Along with the Deli Lama, as mentioned by BAM.
I live in Gurnee, and I was completely unaware of Deli Lama. I'll have to check that place out soon. Wine Knows in Grayslake always has great stuff. Beer Bazaar has a good selection, One Stop Tobacco & Liquors on 45 has a decent selection, and both Cardinal locations in Gurnee (Grand & 21 and Delaney) are decent as well.
I almost forgot, but Gold Eagle Liquors and Sunset Foods in Libertyville are pretty good stops too. Haven't been to that Beer Store down Milwaukee Ave. yet, but it's in the plan.
I will be staying in Gurnee on Saturday. I'm glad I found this thread! Has anyone been to Zumbier or Light the Lamp? I am going to have a full day of free time on Sunday while the spouse does other things.
LTL has a decent Pale Ale, but the hours are so odd that it's difficult to tell when to get there. Zum Bier has weird hours too and are only filling growlers at this time. Easier to find bottles at Wine Knows or Beer Bazaar. If you really want to check out a brewery and their tasting room, head to Mundelein and visit Tighthead. Firkin in Libertyville is worth a visit too.
As @steveh mentioned, Firkin in worthy of taking a trip to. They have a pretty good selection of handles, and if your lucky they'll sometimes have something special on tap (I've had Darkness, Black Note, Parabola, Cask Crystal Hero etc.) The food is spot on too! It can get a little crowed though so know that going in. Hope this helps, cheers!
Deli Lama in Lake Villa is where I usually go. Also I just stopped at Beer Bazaar in Hainesville and scored some Maine Beer Co. Lunch. It was my first time there, they seem to have a little bit wider selection of stuff then the Deli, especially stouts. If you are looking to hit up a local brewery, Tight Head is probably your best bet. http://www.tightheadbrewing.com As far as a local bar Timmy O'Tooles in Gurnee has a lot of great selections on tap. http://www.timothyotooles.com/gurnee/drinks/
The Deli Lama was great. I was confused at first when I saw all the opened six-packs, but then realized you could craft your own from anything on the shelf. I took home three mixers and a 6-pack of Hell or High Watermelon. Tighthead was great too. We were able to do the tour without a Groupon for free. Thanks for the tips!
