I just picked up some Sculpin Habanero and there is no born on date. Also, there is a ridiculous amount of floaties in the bottle.

Im not sure if its just an old bottle or is this normal for the Habanero version.

have you tried it ? I'd guess hops would fade to the back with age but spiciness would remain

Trying to drink down the rest of this Otra Vez first. It's up next.

that's some good stuff but if you are planning on switching beers after the habenero make it something you don't mine the flavor being muted.

If the hops have faded, mix three parts HS with two parts Clamato. I drink a majority if them this way, even if fresh.

I wish i had some tomato juice or margerita mix to tame this beast. My whole mouth is on fire, even the roof. My nose is running like a faucet. Most of the meals i make myself have some element of spiciness/heat to it, but this is rough.

I might pour a 50/50 mix of Otra Vez when the glass half way.

Ill try any beer at least once, but i wouldnt buy this again.

    Is it really that hot?

Also, how long has it been out? Has the beer been out long enough to have gone bad? (Missouri just got Ballast Point apparently).

I picked up a 6 pack of this a few hours ago. I plan on cracking open a bottle on Wednesday when I have the proper glassware.

@SometimesIfart A ghost pepper sculpin would be awesome!! I'm interested.

If you eat a lot of spicy foods like I do, It won't seem that bad. The heat definitely builds as you continue into the beer, But it topped out at about 10,000 scovilles based heat comparison to hot sauces/peppers I have had. Basically twice as hot as Tabasco sauce.

Ohh, okay. I just coated my pizza for lunch in a much hotter hot sauce

I'll send you a PM, because I'm curious what else you have to share about hot sauces and hot pepper beers.

I can't drink a whole Habenaro Sculpin and really enjoy it, although I have took on a whole pint. Last time it was around I had them do 3/4 glass regular Sculpin, top with Habenaro. A pretty good mix.

It depends on the batch due to the varying nature of the peppers. I've had some bottles that were only mildly spicy, and others that were like liquid fire in my mouth.

1/2 Grapefruit Sclupin and 1/2 Habanero is a pretty fantastic blend as well.

Does it vary by 6 pack or can you get a little of both? Here's to hoping I get a bit of the latter

That 1/2 and 1/2 sounds delicious. I might have to give it a try for a glass!

Had this beer once and I couldn't detect anything but heat. I probably could not taste a difference if it were old or fresh. This one wasn't for me. I don't see the point of taking a really nice IPA and adding Habanero. Now, a cheap ass macro, that would be alright.

I'm a hot pepper guy, but even if it's hot for a beer it's never hot pepper hot, it's just hot enough to give you heartburn drinking a full glass. I like the mixing , makes a dull Sculpin interesting, calms down the Habenaro. .

Have only done a 6 pack of it, not that available around here, but loved it. Love spicy food, and this was probably the spiciest beer that I have had. I can see how some palates would be overwhelmed by this and not pick up much else. Not for everyone

best I've had is when HS tapped out that just threw regular sculpin on without cleaning and it had the perfect hint of spice
