I only bought a six pack and that was about a year ago. It was in bottles also because I did not see any in cans. Seemed like an O.K. beer but I have not revisited it since that one time.

Funny I never knew Schlitz as a drinking beer, but in the 60s my dad would crack one and give me the first gusto

Me and my oldest daughter went up to Tulsa to hand with my youngest while she finished up teaching before the school break. We were sitting in Mcnellie's drinking and she pointed to a can of Schlitz behind the bar and I proceeded to tell her how it used to be a pretty good beer, but had run into some problems at one point in it's life. We ended up getting a can to try and we both enjoyed it. A cowboy that worked for my dad lived off of this beer. I would see him at the local liquor store and he would be drinking it with salt poured on the rim (granted this was almost 35 years ago). He would always make me drink one out of his six pack (with salt on the rim) and I remember thinking, this isn't bad.

Schlitz was a go to beer for my crew in the early seventies in Pittsburgh. It was a notch below Bud, a step up from Iron City. In most bars it was 25 cents for a draft, 50 cents for bottle or can.

It was the slogan back in the day, but it wasn't true obviously, mostly it kinda rhymed. We mostly drank Rolling Rock Ponys or Budweiser, but stuff like Schlitz, Schaefer, Iron City were looked down on, all at the ripe old age of 17/18, lol.

Or that old baseball joke: Schlitz is the beer that made Milt Famey walk us.

    More Pabst misinformation...

Sales figures for the individual brands from this period aren't easily accessible, but total brewery barrelage figures are and, in the case of both Anheuser-Busch and Schlitz, the largest percentage of the beer they sold in both decades were their flagships, Budweiser and Schlitz. (Both would enter the "popular-priced" segment during that period with Busch Lager/Busch Bavarian and Old Milwaukee).

Schlitz was the #1 brewer in the US for about half of the '50s (1950-1952, 1955-56) but their lead over AB was always under 1m bbl.

By the decades of the 1960s, though, AB would pull far ahead.

    1960 - AB 8.5M / Schlitz 5.7M
    1970 - AB 22.2M / Schlitz 15.1M

There's likely no way Schlitz was "...the most popular beer in the country..." during that decade.

Used to drink it in high school/college years, cos a lot of bars around Columbus had it on tap cheap. Actually was looking for it last week at WM and could not find it.
Maybe it's not distro'd here or maybe I can get it somewhere else. I'm sure jesskidden will let us know it it's available here in the NC triad

If I happen to see Schlitz, and the dates are fine, I grab as much as I can. Same with Schaefer.

Bought another twelver and what i hadbefore must have been off from the brewery, wasn’t old. This version is great, not off, and taste like the Gusto beer thankfully. Just a part time AAL drinker but when I drink it I like Hamms or Schlitz

I love the Blue Bull, and love to take a ride on the Bull. I miss the Bull being available in my area. We need Bull in Eastern Tennessee, the brewer needs to get in the groove, and supply me with Bull!!!

Today's Schlitz is OK - if you can find it which is more difficult than ever. Brooklyn Schlitz, made until 1973, was in line with most other Brooklyn beers, pretty good. But Schlitz Brewing managed to shoot themselves in the foot with a new "improved" recipe. I don't see a realistic return of the Schlitz brand.
