Just saw their pale American ale in canned 6-packs @ WF Westlake. Not sure what else they might be canning but I'd guess likely candidates are Mongoose and Supergoose, maybe Red Menace. I know Hale's doesn't get a lot of love on here (or really any acknowledgement at all really), but they've been around longer than most (since 1983) so they must be doing something right. They're also getting into the barrel-aging game, I've picked up one each of the imperial stout and wee heavy but haven't tried either yet. I really liked El Jefe as a traditional hefeweizen. Anyway, more fodder for the BA opinion/speculation mill. Cheers!
I shoulda checked the bottom to see if they had canning dates. I don't think the bottles do, not sure.
Troll porter is solid, Mongoose is solid, Rudyard's is good stuff, and Supergoose is solid. Apparently I liked barrel aged Supergoose more than most. I thought it really worked. Pikop whatsit imperial stout was a drain pour for me. I have a soft spot for Hale's because they have had an account with my favorite college bar since at least the 1990's and were the main craft on tap there. Obrien's Harvest Ale was the first real craft beer I can recall drinking and being really pleased with. That was late 90's.
I had the BA Wee Heavy last year and dug it, but the regular version is about the only Hale's beer I would choose over any other craft option. Not bad, just meh.
Bought a sixer of the cans for the 4th, seemed like a good choice. Hale's was definitely one of the very first microbreweries I became aware of and was an early favorite (I was born in '83 too, so yah!). Solid standard offerings and I'm excited to see what other barrel aged stuff they come up with. Also the Palladium is a really fun venue for events.
Back from Nebraska! Picked up a sixer of the Pale Ale for 4th as well. I'd heard that Hales were getting into canning, but hadn't anything about it in a while.
I havent had a Hales beer that I even thought was decent. Open to suggestions, but the Red is one of the worst beers Ive had.
SuperGoose is cans would be great. I also really enjoy Supergoose with it's fresh and the barrel aged version is pretty tasty as well. I also like the Kolsch quite a bit.
Mongoose was my go to by-the-case beer before I got more adventurous with craft beer. Always enjoy one for old times sake.
I believe I will be regularly picking up cans of Pale Ale when I'm back on the mainland next week. When I first started learning to BBQ --- that is, smoking meat low and slow, I would drink Hale's Pale Ale near the end of the smoking and while eating my BBQ. Now BBQ and Hale's Pale Ale go together for me.
