Half Acre (2019)

Stopped by and tried apple Brandy today and it didn't do a ton for me.

Still think original is the best this year, especially the nitro version.

 

I thought the nitro was very nice as well, but I think I prefer regular. I surprisingly really enjoyed vanilla, but it’s really a very different beer than regular. Didn’t have the others, but I don’t think I’m missing out. I’m happy with my decision to go for option one.

 

Just left Balmoral. Out of the three I tried I would go Vanilla > Pommeau > Apple Brandy. They were all really good but the Apple Brandy was a touch too sweet. Solid beers. Wish they had the nitro at Balmoral, Lincoln was packed as usual.

 

I was surprised the janky new glass was sold out already at 4pm yesterday. Another 100-glass order!?!? Glad I have the beautiful stem from 2017.

 

The new glass is dope.

I just stopped at the Binny's in Arlington Heights on my way home from work and they had some.

 

I can't justify grabbing these right after Benthic and with Black Friday in...jesus, 3 days, but good on HA for canning BA Vanilla Big Hugs this year. I've always enjoyed the regular Vanilla, but also felt it was a little one-note, so I'd imagine this is going to be pretty tasty.

 

See I wish that had picked a different adjunct this year. I find coffee and vanilla generally don't mix well/make a great beer and I didn't care much for vanilla big hugs last year.

I'd much prefer they try something like Big Hugs + cinnamon/peppers

 

Oh, for sure. But if I'm being honest, my favorite version of Big Hugs is the one with coconut in it that they call "Benthic."

(it's a little odd to me that they have 2 big stout releases each year, and both are coffee stouts)

Yeah, I'd have tried to check these out if they were released when HA initially planned, but I'll have to pass now. I'd definitely check them out if you're in the neighborhood, though, since regular Orin is a sleeper!
