True, I do miss that HUGE release last year of Benthic Ex-Lax with sunchoke.

My intolerance to lactose wholeheartedly disagrees with this.

Should be able to get ahold of some Benthic at most Binny's at this point, FYI. Found some in the Western burbs. For those wanting more, or who missed out on the release.

looking forward to trying this year's.

last year's was a major disappointment. got zero coffee nor coconut.

probably was my least favorite core BA stout locally.

    2 thoughts on Benthic 2019:

    1) What a pleasant experience to pop in when I was in the area today & casually grab this. I hate lines; I put up with it for Revolution b/c some of their stuff is world class, but this experience with the ordering & pick-up were my ideal scenario.

    2) Just had a can of "regular" Benthic over the course of an hour; when I stood up I was quickly reminded that this is a 14% beer. Deceptively drinkable!

Can't wait to crack the variants with friends.

I only had last year’s once and I enjoyed it (but it was also randomly on at Whole Foods while I was shopping, so that may have made it more enjoyable (as a grocery beer is wont to do). I really enjoyed 2017, but didn’t think much of the first batch. From the drafts and the one can I’ve had of this batch, I really enjoy it. And might possibly be my favorite, or at least on par with ’17.
PS - this batch is plenty coffee forward, which is one reason I love it.

2019 Benthic > 2018 Benthic through my first can. But I also found some bottle variance last year. In general, didn't think the adjuncts popped as much as they did in the 2018 bottles.

Also super happy there's so much distro this year so that I can pop one as an occasional treat rather than a very rare treat.

If y’all haven’t been keeping up with HA’s wild program, don’t sleep on it. It was pretty good to begin with and has completely blossomed over the last 6-12 months.

turns out that’s partly due to the help of a consultant they hired last year. Averie Swanson, formerly of jester king. Now HA is providing space for her to do her own small batch stuff at their facility. Her new brewery will be called Keeping Together.

specifically, Pennon would be one to try. The description on the bottle is shockingly accurate and delicious

Half Acre's wild program is incredibly underrated. The people in this HA thread likely know and appreciate it but the masses don't (yet) know how great it is.

I think HA's sours were on point before she left Jester King, but hey, credit is infinite so spread it around. "You get credit! You get credit! Everyone is going home with credit!"

Discussed Keeping Together at Beer on the Wall yesterday, look for this soon.

In the interim, they have Half Acre Strawberry Loam. Check it out.

+1 on the sour/wild program, which is at least 2-3 year mature in terms of quality.
2017's Gentle Gentle cherry wild was UN-FREAKIN'-REAL.
Turned my head around on things sour and wild.
Mmmmm... I owe it to Paul at HABC for turning me onto them.

Thanks thread. Picked up Pennon and Strawberry Loam for tomorrow as I'm burnt out of NEIPAs (or nothing good came out this week) and stouts (partly to save money for BCBS goodness, but it was hard passing on those Benthic two packs I saw)

Didn’t want to jump the gun from their official release. Kind of regretting leaving for Vegas.

Was also there for this drop:
