On my second can tonight! But I love Daisy Cutter and I love Nelson hops so there’s that! I will preface that the Galaxy version was way more hop forward but again I prefer Nelson so this is my exact wheelhouse. Also don’t sleep on Half Acre’s Black is Beautiful, an incredible chocolate stout!

If we’re limiting it to straight-up stouts, I’d put Deschutes Obsidian and Bell’s Double Cream Stout ahead of Reaper. If the competition is open to oatmeal, milk, etc. stouts, I’d also include New Holland The Poet, Destihl Moonjumper, and Bell’s Kalamazoo.

Bells traditional stout game is the best in the land. Locally, Pollyanna Eleanor is another nice comp to Reaper but Reaper might have a bit more bite to it. Rev Eugene is awesome but it’s a relatively skinny beer comparatively, especially for 7%

I had a pour of DB Catch Hell courtesy of another BA member and it was good, but I’d say I preferred regular Catch Hell. The cinnamon and barrel combined for a sweetness that was a bit more than I’d prefer.

Also had Nelson DDC on Saturday evening and thought that was fantastic.

I’m glad Nelson is more readily available. Gonna have to get some Nelson DDC

Dbch is an amazing stout. I’m glad they limited the release to such a low limit to try and spread the wealth.

I thought the cinnamon was a little more toned down than catch hell (that’s a win IMO) and really ramped up the viscosity. Thic as hell

X'ing fingers that DDC Nelson comes out here but not holding my breath...
In the meantime, just posting my latest "now" pic of Hallow DIPA in honor of this thread.

halfacrebeer Beer & Coastlines. Vallejo is back.

Our commitment and Nelson contracts are riding high, so we re-introduce you to Vallejo India Pale Ale, our warm weather seasonal. Condensation bleeding down the can, water washing over rocks.. The recipe is pure Vallejo – west coast crisp, Carr’s® cracker clean, white grape jelly, under ripe peach, fastidious IPA that’s sure to unbutton every bit of tension you’ve been lugging around town. The warmth is close. Drag a four-pack out the water’s edge. Beer was invented for this.

Vallejo will be available beginning this Wednesday on Curbside and at Balmoral Take Away Cafe. Distribution begins shortly after and will continue all spring and summer long.

I've made a few trips to Tree House over the last few years. The slight bitterness of Hallow is the closest to a Tree House beer that I've had from a Chicago brewery.

Half Acre makes so A level beers and a few times a year they make A+ level beers. The Double Daisy series, Bodem, Daisy, Fader, Beer Hates Astronauts, Vallejo, the list goes on and on.

The Double Daisy Cutter Single Hop Series has been pure Hill Farmstead.

Hallow was a little green for me right out of the gate but I’ve had a 2 friends tell me it’s gotten significantly better in the can. Excited to open a can at some point this week. If they can get Hallow dialed in like they’ve Burl dialed in (similar profile) they should have one of the best 12.99 value haze in the nation.

I was not a fan of Hallow. I found it a muddled mess that didn’t know what style it was trying to be.

Hallow got better with every can for me. Drank about 1 per week over the last month. I'm probably grabbing another 4 pack this week if I don't get distracted by some other shiny new hazy - something that, thankfully, is happening less and less these days. I really enjoyed it and agree with the sentiment that if this is gets fully dialed in and is year round, I'll be drinking a lot of this.

Damn. I came here to learn whether Navaja was coming out. Hallow is a damn fine all around DIPA. Is it as good as the DDC NELSON? Ehhhhh... prolly not. But I like that it has the lighter density and the sense of unfiltered beer and not just oat haze.

All that being said... if you have some Navaja inside scoop.... cut me with knowledge.

    Cheers.

Hallow hits all the right notes for me. Went through a 1/6 barrel in 3 weeks and will be restocking this week. Since pipeworks stopped selling kegs I’ve had some kind of half acre ipa on tap and they do not disappoint
