Tap list updated yesterday seems... unexciting? What's the likelihood of new options come Sunday? Asking for a friend. And me, who will be with that friend.
I looked recently & thought there was not only nothing that exciting, but, there wasn't many beers at all. There's usually at least 4-5 more options. If this is a side effect of the new merger, it makes it less likely that I'll stop by the taproom. 4 IPAs, 1 lager & a few seltzers? Full pass.
Right? Seemed shocking that there were so few options. Where are the west coast IPAs? Where's the token badass BA stout? Thinking about walking up there after Hop Butcher--Dovetail--Is/Was, and if it weren't for Spiteful, maybe I wouldn't bother?
That tap list IS pretty underwhelming, but then again, it features Beer Hates Astronauts (the GOAT) so it's not all disappointing.
Weirdly I was just looking at the tap list the other day and was wondering why they are always SO bad about updating it. But yeah, wow, that's the worst tap list at Half Acre I can ever recall seeing. Hope it's just a random moment and not a sign of things going forward.
Yeah, I wouldn't say it's a "full-on hazy" nowadays (hasn't had quite the thick mouthfeel/hop concentration that I'd expect from a legit hazy) but it is definitely fairly hazy. The real selling point imo is the Vienna malt they use, which gives it a little bit of a lager-like bite. One of my faves of theirs, but I would like them to do a clear batch again like the old days.
I’ve been a longtime fan of Beer Hates Astronauts, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say this year’s batch is the worst to date. I was always under the impression it was all Citra, but they either picked some shitty lots this year or slipped in something else. Hazy vs not aside, the hop character is a muddy mess. All overripe fruit, pungent and verging on rotten.
I had a second can yesterday on a clean palate. I was probably a little harsh with the rotten comment, but overripe fruit for sure. I’ve had a lot of Citra over the years, but if this is pure there’s something off.
Bummed for you. And worried that 'bummed' might be the default setting going forward. I genuinely hope I'm wrong.
Well, as long as they keep the Vallejos, and the Benthic stuff on tap between May 6-10, no one has to die.
