For you it’s triple barrel- the two bourbon barrels and then the barrel they have you over when they know they have you hooked.

So what are the limits on this? This is the kind of beer I'm willing to splurge on.

No limits. Price must have deterred people.

Price but also consumer confidence at recession levels due to coming stagflation.

Is the DB 2x4 Benthic as magical as the last batch?

I had it on tap today . For my taste , not quite at the level of last year . Coffee and coconut very apparent on the nose , but a little sweeter and not as much barrel presence. Still I’m happy I picked up 2 cans .

Last year, I got BIG TIME coconut vibes.

This year, I got BIG TIME coffee vibes.

Perhaps a touch of wood came through this year (unlike last year, in my opinion), and it's a bit less syrup-y, so I'd say it's overall slightly better.

However, if you prefer coconut to coffee & can't get enough sludge on the mouthfeel, you may disagree.

One thing I am sure of is that it greatly improved my mood.

Surprised to see that both the db 2x4 and the variant had kicked already

Nitro was gone by lunch on Friday. Might be a new record. It sometimes makes it to the 2nd weekend

Yep. Saw a lot of reviews complaining about not on par with b1, coffee heavy, etc. Loved it.

I was a "coffee heavy" guy, but I was NOT complaining.

However, I had a second can tonight & the coconut was dominant.

Probably just user error but wanted to note it regardless.

Agreed, although that's always the case with coffee beers. Coffee is usually intense the first month, more balanced 2nd and 3rd, then it mellows out after and you can barely taste it after 6 months. It all depends on when you had your last 2x4 and how you liked it.
But coffee's also an agricultural product so it varies a bit batch to batch, roast to roast.

I had my last can of the previous batch and, while really good, I didn’t enjoy it as much as when fresh. The coffee had a mildly unpleasant note at this point. Not always how it goes with 2x4. Coconut of course is notorious for fading as well though less so in Half Acre beers.

Yes, with an an exception or 2, but it’s not “a hazy” if that makes any sense. As far as I know, it’s not a hazy yeast, and the malt character isn’t that of a standard hazy ipa in 2025.
My experience is this, every single year. I get excited for the release, buy a 4pk, crack a can and feel a slight disappointment upon the first sip. Then the beer gets into me, I finish the 1st can and pour another. By the time the second can is done I’m back in love, and planning my next trip to the store. It’s one of those beers that impressed me with its utility. It’s so balanced and repeatable. It could easily be their flagship if they chose to make it that
