so i just recently got a new job in Chicago. Grew up in central illinois in a small town and am still trying to get used to the city. I was wondering what would be the best way to get to the Half Acre taproom? I commute by train so driving really isnt an option. Hows the neighborhood? Whats the place like on a friday night? The office i work is on the corner of Wacker and Michigan...(all the seasoned city veterans please take it easy on me.)
looks like red line to belmont, transfer to brown line, exit montrose, and walk west, taproom is south of montrose on Lincoln.
neighborhood is nice. Bad Apple just down the street has awesome food and beer too. you can also catch the #11 bus downtown and it will drop you off in front of Half Acre if you don't want to walk ~1 mile from the montrose stop. might take longer on the bus though, especially on a friday.
From Michigan/Wacker, take Red to Belmont, transfer to Brown and take to Montrose. The Brewery/Tap Room are at Cullom and Lincoln. Walk west to Damen, South to Cullom, West to Lincoln, hang a left on Lincoln and it's there. Neighborhood is good. Lot's of development in the past 5 years there. Bad Apple is very close and so is Fountainhead. Hit up those also.
Unfortunately the #11 Lincoln Ave bus got cut about a year ago. That was a super convenient route and dropped me about a block from home (which was also a block from the HA taproom). The neighborhood is nice, and as the poster above said, Bad Apple is excellent but gets very crowded. Gannon's across the street is a decent pub. A good bottle shop, Bottles & Cans, is just south of HA and Begyle's storefront is walkable as well (near the Irving Park Brownline). ] Cheers!
You guys are awesome. Thanks for all of the info. Ive been wanting to get to the taproom for a while, seeing as they make some of my favorite beer. Cant wait
Welcome to Chicago! Not sure if you know this but if you have a smartphone and use google maps, one option when generating directions is to choose public transportation. The app will suggest a combination of CTA bus/train routes to wherever you choose. A lot of times I choose the simpler suggested routes (train and short walk) rather than a complicated one (3 buses) even though it might take a few minutes longer. Also, don't rely on the exact times quoted by google maps for when a train/bus should show up at a given spot, I find them to not be exactly accurate. Use the CTA bus/train tracker websites for that.
@tag that is very clutch. I had no idea google maps had that feature. Thank you for saving me a thousand headaches.
