"We’ve been making fun of wheat beers for a long time. Low hanging fruit, I guess, but we brewed one. Our packaging team was riding the topic pretty hard. They wanted to see an american wheat brewed with australian hops. And since they work their fingers to the nub and are a pretty rad group of chaps, we took the bait and slammed this brew in the tanks.

A ridable 5.5% abv will host some wheatey nuts & juicy Motueka hop bolts. The deliverer of this truth: Akari Shogun, He who harnesses light will usher this summer force into your life.

Akari Shogun American Wheat, coming to you soon, friends."

Damn this looks awesome. I hope "soon" is actually soon, I'm leaving for the summer in a couple weeks and really don't want to miss this.

They usually end up releasing things the week after they say soon. I bet it's 6/8

    Releasing the Shogun

"On Wednesday June 13th we release Akari Shogun, the American Wheat we brewed. Sales begin at 12pm when our brewery store opens.
    22oz bombers for $5.99 + tax and growler fills for $13 + tax ($17 + tax w/ growler)
So please, let’s pass the wheat and slice the prisms of summer."

That may be the least expensive bomber of HF beer they have released...at least in a while if memory serves me correct. Anyone know if this is getting distributed or brewery only?

i never know with their distribution. last year and this year ginger twin was distributed. cipher was as well. meat wave was another. seems more like special stuff such as collabs (freedom of 78, couple years ago) captain fantasy (last year) and galactic don't. (double daisy cutter was sent out). based on price and type of beer, i would safely assume it will be sent out. stuff that was sent out, i caught at whole foods.

Stopped by and grabbed a bomber for my kickball game last night. I'm a pretty big fan. It has a nice hop presence and will be extremely drinkable this weekend as the temperatures rise. Will def be picking more up tomorrow.

Anyone remember when the last time HA brewed a wheat? Ambrosia?

Love HA, but does anyone else think their beer is starting to all taste very similar? Sampled the Shogun yesterday and if you had told me it was one of the other one-offs, I would have believed you. Maybe it's the base of the beer or something? Still, 5.99 is an awesome price, so I picked some up.

I also get tired of Half Acre staying in their comfort zone of hoppy, moderate abv pale ales, but I think we can all agree that this kind of beer is what they do very well. I'm looking forward to trying this one.

BTW - whatever happened to Half Acre brewing saisons??

Agreed! It's hot out and those are always quite tasty.

Nothing wrong (in my opinion of course) with a brewery finding a niche and cranking out winners in that particular genre.

I'll take more pale ale / IPA / hop forward variations as they are almost universally good (unlike some of their past experiments that stepped outside of their comfort zone).

    Cheers!

This beer was really enjoyable, particularly for $5.99. I'd rather see a well-executed variation on the same themes (Southern Hemisphere hops, lower-ABV pale ales, etc.), than experimental stuff that isn't very good.

    That equates to a $3.27 - 12oz. bottle or a $19.60 six-pack.

I wish they'd canned this beer instead and sold it for Daisy Cutter prices as I'd definitely purchase it then.
