Haven't done happy hour in well over a decade now. It was one thing when I was in the service and there were a couple of local taxi services that charged a flat rate. We could go out, hit happy hour, and so long as I had the fee, I think $5 tucked aside, I could be assured of making it back to my rack safe and sound. Just not worth risking the DUI or worse.

Chicago repealed happy hour restrictions a few years ago. Craft brewers and bars have offered some slight beer or food appetizer specials, some offer macro beer specials.

    Everyone likes a discount!

All over the place, some are half priced Mondays, Red Oak is a buck off on Thurs, Lowes Foods is half off Thursday's. Happy Hour doesn't drive me a bit, but it's gladly accepted if I decide I want a beer that happens to be on that day.

Come on, alcohol and power tools? The only thing that goes together better than that is alcohol and firearms.

Happy hour? What is this concept? Being a resident of Massachusetts, it is a foreign concept. Though some places do have half of apps between (say) 4 and 6, or whatever.
Personally, if I was going out after work, it would be group consensus on where to go, so it may well drive the decisions (hypothetically) on where to go, for me personally, I would choose the better or at least more consistant craft selection of the half-dozen or so places within the stone's throw of my office. I did used to work at a place there was a regular pilgrimage to the bar across the parking lot - we were the frequent drinkers club. We'd walk in, the bartenders would count who was there, and they'd deliver out drinks without having to ask, at least for those of us that had a regular drink. (Mine was their housebrewed Irish Stout.)

Lowes is a food store here, nice bar too, 5-6 beers on tap, wine bar. Had a fresh Lagunitas tap take over last week, and it was great. They rotate taps, mostly local stuff, sometime Stone, or whatever, makes grocery shopping more interisting.

I grew up in the Baltimore - Annapolis area. Happy hour was usually 5- 7 pm. Sometimes food was served such as carved roast beef. I use to eat my dinner at happy hour for free in Annapolis. Now I am much older and live in a PA college town. Happy hour is 9 pm. Ugh.
