Up until 3 months ago my favorite beer, by far, was Blue Point Toasted Lager....Just finished (in order) Ballast Point Sculpin, Founders IPA and Sumpin Sumpin.....THEN I had the Toasted lager.....What the hell was I thinking all these years?

Heat and humidity have been causing me to examine my local selection of pale ales like never before. So no, stronger flavored beer does not make me dislike other beers any more than drinking port wine ruins my ability to enjoy regular wines.

It's the order in which you had it. Next time, have the Blue Point Toasted Lager first. Enjoy it on its own merits.

Depends on what I'm shooting for. If I'm thinking I want a big, complex, malty, stout that coats the mouth and packs a big punch, regular stouts will never ever stack up to something like Parabola. But that's not always what I want in a stout - sometimes I just want something roasty and drinkable on a rainy/chilly day. Parabola wouldn't work for me then.

As for returning to lesser-liked beers within style? Hell yes that's hard for me. Unless it delivers something really different from what I like about my favorite, it's hard for me to go back and skip the one I like better.

They really need to teach something like this in a math class.

To the first question regarding the stout...possibly. Once I got into big stouts I slowly faded from just regular stouts. They just taste so lifeless to me. IPAs though, absolutely not.

An Imperial anything will likely kill your palate if you have a non-Imperial of a similar style afterwards...Try again tomorrow.
