Has anyone ever had a hard time getting the nut on the back side of the faucet to loosen? I have been on deployment, and so my kegerator has just been sitting for about 6 months, and I am trying to use it again, but the nut on both taps will not budge. I broke a spanner wrench trying to turn it. I then got some pliers and tried them. It is gouging up the nut, and the entire faucet is truning with it. I tried putting the box end of a wrench over the tap for leverage to keep the faucet from turning too, and it held it still, but with all my strength I still can not get the nut to budge. Is there some lube or chemical I can put on it to loosen it? I tried a bunch of WD-40 already. I am a fighter jet mechanic, so I know it isnt because I dont know how to use my tools. I just dont want to have to drop $140 on a new tower. Thanks for any help.

Are you turning it the correct way? As you look at the faucet, it turns to the right to loosen it up.

The beer never touches that, so there is nothing that should lock it up unless it rusted or something, but I think that would be apparent.

Yes I'm turning it the right way. I dont know why it is seized up. There is no rust on it. I am thinking that I will have to replace the entire tower. It simply will not budge.

are you talking about the nut inside the tower that attaches to the shank or the faucet lock that you normally use a faucet wrench for?

The faucet lock that you normally use a spanner wrench on. After the tab on my wrench broke off I had to use pliers on the nut.

well, then you shouldn't have to replace the whole tower. If you can't get it loosened up worst case is you have to replace the shank and faucet I guess.

maybe Vice Grips and a hammer? Lock down the vice grips and tap on it with a hammer to loosen it up and just get more and more violent as your rage sets in.

maybe cross threaded? PB Blaster might help. WD40 ain't going to do shit since it does not penetrate very well.
you can also apply some heat. a couple of seconds with your burnz-o-matic will help.

personally i would not use a hammer. if you shear any metal your'e done.

also, a fighter jet might be complex but unless it has a shank and faucet... well here you are. look up "Engineer's Resolve".
    Cheers.

yeah I would use the hammer as a last ditch effort.

If I had an F/A-18, I would install a shank and faucet. There are extra fuel tanks after all.

The F/A-18 needs a faucet. And as a fighter mechanic, I always hit things with hammers. It is the way we conduct business. I still cant get this damn thing, and broke it more, so I ended up getting a new tower. Ill just have to be more careful with this one.

I'm new to the forum, and I want to say thanks to Cubbyswans!!!
I was trying to unscrew the faucet (The Wrong Way)! Duh

Anyway... I've got a cold glass for Dogfish Head 90 Minute in my hand!
    Thanks

I have a small jar of bung lube I put on all my faucet connections. It does help to get the faucet off and apart
