Rumor has it that it's because Hardywood employees want to sleep in after spending Friday night riding around town drinking good beer at ___________ (insert random RVA brewery here)

    j/k

I will be there, I went to Milkman/Milkmaid, Foolery and BA Raspberry Stout releases last year. Hardywood is a great place

I don't see limits or pricing?

Because it's VA, I think there is a rule about posting of beer pricing from a brewery, but could be wrong.

Last time it was 4pp ~$17 a bottle.

But knowing the bottle limit will let me know if I drive up for this or go to Old Hickory instead.

Breweries rarely post pricing and I think the rule is often confused. My understanding is ABC does not allow a business is post any special specific pricing (like happy hour specials). The price posted by anyone has to be the all day every day price. HWP could not offer a special price for release day only (i.e. $15 on Oct 31st) while it may normally run $20 and post that for advertising but could state the regular cost if they wanted. I do not know the actual price and just used those for examples. I would expect them to announce limits before release.

Was Trickery really 4pp? Foolery and Ruse were only 1pp

Yes. There was ~1700 bottles from the first run of Trickery.

Yep. 4pp last year. It came in heavily under the radar on the initial run. I'm guessing very few people (even the "whale" hunters) knew how popular the beer would be. Since it is aged for 8 months I'm guessing/hoping they had time to ramp up production and plan as long as it got in barrels by late Jan/early Feb. Ruse and Foolery they did not have much time to prepare I bet. Just hoping Trickery lasts for a few hours on the 31st so I can swing by later in the day to pickup a couple bottles.

even last year at 4/per it only lasted about an hour.
@c64person there were only 1000ish bottles last year.

There is a ton more this year. It could be a similar limit. They are anticipating having it seeing limited distro as well.

I stand corrected. Sounds like there were some who did see it coming and snapped them up quick!
@raveskdr I hope you are right. I just want them to still have some when I'm able to get there around 2:30/3:00 to pickup bottles. They can run out right after that.

IIRC, GBS fell off for a year or two after its first release because Hardywood ramped up production. Hopefully Trickery won't suffer the same fate. This beer was just too damn good and expectations are very high again.

I don't 100% agree with this. Last years GBS was the best I have had to date and was probably the biggest yield by far. Same goes with BA GBS which also saw limited distro last year.

I was implying that it was the second or third year, which was the 2011 & 2012 batches (I think). The last couple of years have been pretty good and almost back on par with the initial GBS release which got the perfect score on BA. Last year was really good IMO.

GBS batch 1 was easily the best.

This would be awesome - I can't make it to the release but also don't need 4 bottles. If I could get just one from a shop I'd be happy about that!

Anyone from NOVA/DC area going down and willing to pick up one or 2 for me (assuming 4 bottles pp)? Will unfortunately be out of town. I've got some supreme leader and will likely head down to RVA for one of the GBS variants if anyone wants to set up a trade. Msg me if interestd.

I would be shocked it if was the same 4/per limit like last year.
I'm personally expecting 2/per (pure guess on my part - no source/confirmation)
