Coworker is staying at the Crowne Plaza this weekend on S 2nd St. He only has access to uber...no car. Any stores nearby and any recs for beer to bring back?
Federal Taphouse. It's within walking distance. Might want to check out ZeroDay and The Mills if time allows. If they wanted to Uber to Als of Hampden that would be the the best option but I'm not sure how convenient the ride back to Harrisburg would be.
They have some bottles to go, but are way overpriced. If he/you are looking for anything specific from around here let me konw, and i'll help the best i could.
Here is the to go list, at least the most current one: http://media.wix.com/ugd/b9191d_7be0f08de7e84867bc0d8c6b081ee8a8.pdf Meeting up with @Jwilford23 is highly recommended. Great dude.
If anything, I would have him Uber to Al's of Hampden (Should be a really cheap ride) and fill some crowlers/growlers. Recommendations: Eternal Sunshine (base and w/ grapefruit zest) Sunny Side Up (Best non-BA imperial coffee stout I've had) Any of the fillable TH taps (Crowlers aren't allowed so he'd have to have glass for these fills)
JB Lovedrafts is right across the street from Federal Taphouse also. I haven't been there, but they have 100 taps. If looking for stuff to go they don't have much, other than 24 oz cans and 40's though. Personally I wouldn't recommend going to ZeroDay, unless he just likes going to new breweries. I have been less than impressed with nearly every beer I have had from them, granted I haven't had any for quite some time. I would definitely go to Al's of Hampden/Pizza Boy.
Have been to JB once since the changeover from Anthony's. Let's just say it most likely is an acquired taste for many folks with a unique clientele.
Yeah, it looks different than Anthony's for sure. I used to frequent happy hour on Friday's at Anthony's. Who can beat free pizza and 1/2 price drafts?
I would like to reinforce: DO NOT HAVE HIM GO TO ZERODAY. ZeroDay is the type of brewery that derives success from the relative newness of craft beer. It's not good, but a lot of people just don't know it yet.
Didn't try food. Can't speak to taps--all tap handles were painted over in black with a number scrawled on. I believe there was a chalkboard with some sort of list.
I stopped in at JB Lovedrafts on Friday. They still do happy hour from 4-6, but no free pizza anymore. They took about half of their taps out, I think they had 54 now. Completely different atmosphere/vibe in there now, not really my scene. Arcade games all over and people playing video games on the tv's above the bar. I did get a burger and it was damn tasty though. The wife got a chicken sandwich and said it was really good also.
