So I will be flying into Hartford on Tuesday afternoon and leaving Wednesday evening. I'll have a car and a decent amount of free time, and I'm staying at the Marriott downtown. While I'm there I'd like to grab some local brews to take home and find some good local stuff on draft.

    A few questions:
    1) What are good bottle shops to visit that aren't too far out of the way?
    2) What's on shelves right now that I should be looking out for?
    3) Are there any bottle shops within an hour of the airport that would have any Trillium brews?
    4) Any recommendations of places downtown to grab a beer/eat?

I'm planning to head to Tree House on Wednesday. Should be able to get there by 4. What are the chances they are sold out at this time? And how long should I expect to wait in line at this time?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

You should be fine at that time on Wednesday at TH. Don't try to get there later than 5 though as youll be cutting it close.

You wont find Trillium on any shelves anywhere.

Go to Mcladdens in West Hartford, Birch Tavern in Glastonbury or Yardehouse in Enfield. They are all in different directions from the airport North, West and South so pick one if you go to Harvest in West Hartford Mcladdens is close by. If you go to Enfield Joes in East Windsor is a good store close by. In Glastonbury you can go to Kays Fine Wine and Spirits for an awesome selection

Liquor Cabinet in East Granby gets some good stuff (SoS, G-Bot (Got some Friday but is now gone), Pioneer Trailblazer, Captain's DAughter, Against the grain, Lord Hobo, Hard to find Hooker stuff, Relic, Clown Shoes (check the dates), Foley Brothers, and others) They have a Facebook page and one of the few places I've found here in CT that is very open with what they have. No handshake deals.

Up in Mass only about 25-30 minutes north you can go to Table & Vine in West Springfield. They also get some SoS starting a few weeks ago, Bldg 8, Brewmaster Jack, Abandoned Building, Fort Hill, Lord Hobo, Clown Shoes, and tons of not so local others. really big place with a good selection.

If I were you I'd look to do a trade or something for some Trillium or try and drive there. Canton location isn't too bad of a ride from the Hartford area if you can go at good traffic times (not rush hours).

Find yourself a Bear's BBQ location. One in downtown Hartford and one 2 minutes outside of the airport. They'll have some nice local brews to choose form on tap usually and food is amazing.

    Safe travels and cheers.

Yankee Spirits in Sturbridge isn't too far past TH if you're dead set on checking out a bottle shop. Not quite sure what their selection would be on a Wednesday afternoon/evening though. Folks on here might be able to help.

There have been 5 responses, he's staying in Hartford and no one recommended City Steam Brewery? I haven't been there myself in a long time, but I always thought of them as being underrated. Is Ron officially gone yet? I heard from the grapevine that they've been brewing some nice beers lately, and food has always been pretty good.

City Steam is a good call. The new brewer, Sam, has been there for about a year and has done some good things....even tweaked some old things to improve them.

The Beer Shop in East Longmeadow, MA. Almost exclusively singles. Better selection than almost any store in CT. Also, Massachusetts has stuff that isn't distributed in CT.

+1 to Harvest in West Harford. Also a great area for food/taps...Max Burger, McLaddens, etc.

    +1 to Yankee Sturbridge too.

You should check treehouse's twitter for the past few Wednesdays. My suspicious is that they are completely sold out by 4 on most Wednesdays.

You can also take a look at Beer Menus and see if there is anything that peaks your interest. Would second Birch Hill Tavern(Glastonbury) and Yarde Tavern(Enfield) with pretty decent lists most of the time. Not sure if Hooker has a canning of #NoFilter going on, but that would be worth the trip too.

No Filter was just released here in the East Granby (Town over from airport) on the 3rd and doubt any is left in most places.

Within walking distance of your hotel for good food and drink:

Trumbull Kitchen has Super Session, Lord Hobo Consolation Prize, local brewery Stubborn Beauty The Fist, and Sea Hag. Very good food.

Tavern Downtown has Jack's Abbey Kiwi Rising plus some good non-New England beers. Pub food.

Dish usually has Sip of Sunshine or Captain's Daughter on but don't know for sure right now. Good food.

Thank you! Was actually just picking a place to go grab a bite when I saw this. Will definitely go with one of your suggestions.

    Cheers!

Seeing this late I think, but City Steam is SUPER close to you and has decent pub grub and the new brewer Sam is really ramping up the variety. There are two production facilities in Hartford that may be open for evening hours. Hanging Hills is about 10 minutes south of you in a cab, but may not be open tonight (Tuesday). To the west of you about 20 minutes in a cab is Hog River Brewing, another facility with a tap room that I think is open on Tuesday nights. you should be able to get contact info via the beerfly page here. Hope you enjoy your visit to Hartford and get some tasty beers!!
