So I tried to harvest yeast from my previous batch to use on my next homebrew, it didn't work, not sure why but that's not my question. Now that I have a stir plate I can get a new bottle of yeast and make a large healthy starter. I was wondering if I don't pitch all of the yeast from the starter, then could I use this next time for a new starter? Wouldn't the yeast be healthier then a yeast that just got done fermenting a beer? Thans in advance.

Yea, I do this quite frequently. If it calls for a 1.5L starter I just make a 2L and pitch what I need and then add the rest to some boiled water in a mason jar (such as you would do for washing yeast).

How long did you wait before reusing the yeast? The first time I tried harvesting I ended up waiting a month till my next brewday, no dice were had upon that occasion. AFAIK you should have about 10 days max after harvesting/building up your starter before you need to pitch it or get another starter going.
