Ever had it? Thoughts? What should it cost?

I just saw it at a liquor store for $25 a 6-pk, or $5 per bottle. Is that worth it?

It's a fantastic stout/porter, probably one of the best. BUT, if money is a concern, then no, it isn't worth it. There are some fantastic domestic offerings that cost much less.

Excellent beer. Ola Dubh, which uses OEI as its base, is even better. Not sure of the price, but if you like the style, you'll most likely enjoy this.

The price is comparable to what you'll find elsewhere and as others have said it’s a really good porter that holds its own among the best. But you can find others that are competitive and that have a lower price.

It's a spectacular beer that will sadly remain under the radar due to its price point (~$5 for a little bottle) next to other stalwart porters like Founders Porter and Edmund Fitzgerald.

If you can get a single bottle, seriously do so.

Been a while since I had that one. Don't buy 6. Find a single or see if they'll break one out for you.

Really good beer. $5 a bottle is pretty steep but if you're really up for it and its 'I probably won't see it again' scenario then I'd probably go for it. What do the BB dates say?

Wow that is expensive if you can buy it for $5.50 or $6 per bottle here in Australia. :grimacing:

Isn't $25 for a 6-pack like $4-ish per bottle? With the exchange rate that's not a lot more than it is in the UK.

Old Engine Oil is a delicious smokey porter worth trying for $5/bottle. It's up there with Mayflower Porter and has its own unique charred flavor, just like the name says. Pretend you're at a bar and it'll seem like a happy-hour special.

Retail here is $4-4.50 a bottle, with the Engineer's Reserve a $1 more usually. Both are exceptional beers, and the Ola Dubh line takes them even more steps better.

It's a favorite but the price prevents it from being a regular purchase.
It's very nice to see the praise for it in this thread... since bigger stouts tend to steal all the thunder.

With all of the American "big statement" dark beers, a very powerful understated UK version stands out and shines. OEO has always been a pleasure and I'm glad that it continues to thrive and intrigue.

Excellent example of what an English porter is. Try to find a single bottle before springing for a 6-pack.

Hands down one of the best of the style. Pricey but worth it. Been drinking it for years and it's a staple at one restaurant my wife and I frequent.

As other have said, it is excellent beer. In Finland $5 per bottle would be cheap price for any craft beer. But your standards, it is indeed a bit pricey. Still defenetely worth to try, although you likely can get as good beers at better price.

I'll pile on here. Old Engine Oil is one of the best porters I've ever had. Due to the price point (~$5/11.2 oz bottle) I don't buy it very often, but I would see if I could get a hold of a single before shelling out that much cash for a six pack of it.

Gotta pay to play. Treat yo self on a splurge purchase, friend, and savor the pack over time.
