I'm in New Orleans, and I have not tried growing hops yet. I was thinking about planting some this year. I heard mention of Australian hops on (I think) the last episode of brewing TV. It got me thinking that the Aussie varieties would be ideal to grow in the New Orleans climate. I'm basing this on the, almost, year round heat.
    Thoughts? Or better yet, experience?

I asked a similar question earlier in the year and the consensus was that if you could find a place (in AU or NZ) that sells the rhyzomes, getting them to ship them here with the restrictions on bringing plants into the states would make it near impossible to get them.

In addition to that many of the more desirable varieties are relatively new and may still be proprietary to the farm/company so just sourcing the rhizomes would be hard enough. I would equate it to getting Simcoe, Citra, or Amarillo rhizomes.

To rain on the parade again, most NZ and Australian growing regions are higher latitude and cooler than N.O. I think.

You are correct. Tasmania, New Wales, and the South Island. Roughly -38 to -40 latitude.

OP - Good luck on finding the rhizomes. Many of those were derived from European stock.

Edit - NOLA is at about +30 latitude, hops won't do so well. You might read up on what to do at that latitude.

I got the country right for Galaxy, but failed on the local states. My bad. Hope to get to your country someday, it is on the bucket list.

The South Island was in reference to where the hops are grown in NZ, see the post by Greenkrusty101. At least I know that the hops there have names that have local place names on the South Island. Nelson, Metueka, Riwaka for example.
