Well, if you wanted to compare it to another corn based AAL, Pabst is a contender with 40% corn. Regular Busch would also work.

Or, if you want to make a flavor standard, get a 40 oz. of Olde English 800, a 12 oz. can of creamed corn, 4 oz. of cabbage, and put in blender on high for 30 seconds.

    (just kidding, don't do that)

    Yes, as Peter says, Pabst.

It really is like creamed corn in aroma. Some are blind to DMS, so actually smelling creamed corn would be good, to see if you can smell that aroma. Unless you know what creamed corn smells like already.

You'd be surprised how many here consider them major authorities and quote their reviews. I assumed you were one of them. No fight intended.

Actors usually say things that are from something called "the script".

    Peter,

It is my understanding that Pabst is brewed using corn syrup. Does corn syrup provide the same flavor profile as brewing with corn (e.g., corn grits or flaked maize)?

    Cheers!

Do any of you know what the "33" is about? I've heard it's a printing error. There are 33 words on the label, (which i verfied many moons ago) And i think it was something like the printer charged by the word and that was the tally mark left on by mistake. Or something like that. Does anybody actually know the truth?

I don't think there is an official answer, but a common belief is it's the year prohibition ended - that and the 33 words.

A few years ago they made a TV commercial about it

Was always one of my favorites when I was young, it broke my heart when they no longer made it in Latrobe.

No doubt you did not read the discussion because two people have already said AB went to extra lengths to maintain the flavor of Rolling Rock with the DMS flaw.

My friend was from Ohio and when he'd go home, he'd always bring this beer back for us to share. I can see why he bragged about it so much. Good stuff. But nowadays, it's really not the same. Still a decent AAL, but not the same.

Yeah, I remember my grandpa drinking loads of the stuff when I was a kid, and I really liked it myself about twenty years ago. I guess it was partly the Pennsylvanian in me. I too am sad that it's left the state, and I just don't care for it as much as I did back then. Sigh.

Rolling Rock was a foreign concept to us in OK for the longest time. The stuff of legend. It was a real treat to drink some. Later on, we did get it here and I think it may have been the beer from Latrobe. I don't know for sure. So many mergers and acquisitions, I can't hardly keep up. JessK would know.

Agreed! Those ponys were great for having one on the road, settle down now. Always thought RR had a bit of a salty taste to it.

Are you sure it really was different and not just some sort of subliminal effect of the new packaging? Have you tried it more than once and had the same result?

I haven't had a Rolling Rock in several years, and if I had it now I'm not sure I could reliably say whether it tastes the same as it did when I last had it. While brewers do make changes to their beers, I just find it surprising they would make a significant change that abruptly.
