Has Zombie Dust gotten worse?

I had ZD on draft last night, and found it to be very much worse than when I first had it. It noticed it's falling in the ratings, and was wondering if anyone else found it to be not as good as it once was?

Whenever people talk about it any more it seems to be about how overrated it is. I understand it might just be my palate changing, but a few of my friends had it and said they thought it didn't taste so hot either.

I had one at the brewery on Friday, it did not overwhelm me.

I tried one about a month ago and thought it was awesome, although it was the first time I tried it so maybe it was just even more awesome before.

At least 75 other breweries have made a beer which is similar in hop profile and people have moved on from autotune hop beer and want the next thing, nothing to see here.

Depends of the batch, they seem to have some consistency problems. With that said I think all the batches they brew are good, but some are definitely better than others.

I doubt it has gotten any worse, but a single hop Citra APA (or IPA) is no longer that novel of an idea. Pseudo-Sue is pretty darn good, and even my local nano-brewery makes one that is delicious.

In other words, it may be just as good as before, but it's certainly no longer as special as it once was.

Zombie Dust has definitely fallen off with the increased batch production, it just doesn't have the citra hop punch it used too. I enjoy many FFF brews but inconsistency is their trademark.

Tap or bottle tastes great every time I have it (About 10x's this year) but I also do not have it very much anymore because it is somewhat of a pain to get and is very expensive in comparison to other options. I do give ZD credit though for turning me on to IPAs when I started drinking craft beer.

I drink a shiat load of zombie dust. It hasn't changed a bit. this is all in your head. my first check in was february 9th 2012 and i have had one as recently as last friday. i've had it in the bottle, on draft, and on cask. you're crazy if you think this has changed. that being said, i'm not drinking 6 month old dust. my guess is that people who are underwhelmed are drinking old bottles.

I agree. Living in Chicago, it's pretty easy to find really good, single hop IPA's or IIPA's that are much easier to find than ZD. Anything Pipeworks produces is just fine by me.

As the hype machine slows, the beer does not taste as good.

This has come up a few times recently. One issue that has been previously posted is the demand for citra hops is greater than the supply - and some hops are harvested early, not allowing them to fully mature. I don't have facts for this, just remember someone else posting it on here.

I've had ZD a lot recently, and I don't think it's changed all that much (if at all). When fresh, it's always delicious!

I can't help but wonder - how is it that I got into craft beer seriously around April of this year, joined BA in June, and now in December I'm making jokes like this? I barely even drank craft beer before 2014!

You've just had other beers that are just as good. When you first drank ZD you probably never had anything like it, but now (like someone else said), there are so many other beers with similar hop profiles.
I like to relate it to the band that you used to love in high school; but now you listen to them and you wonder why you liked them, or the music sounds average. The music hasn't changed, your ears/brain have just evolved. This is what people do...

By the way, I just had a 10 day old ZD on Sunday, and it was awesome!

I had that epiphany moment with it while standing at one the Hideout Block parties where I was like. "Yum. It's good for what it is. But it's beer candy and I know I'll be bored of it if I don't drink something else."

i heard in 2015, i think they said spring, they are changing to spalt select and horizon hops due to the low crop yield of citra this year. expect things to get even worse man, beer has gotten real competative and the bigger companies like new belgium and yeungling have been sucking up most of the citra
