Wasn't intended to be a brag or douchy (although fair enough, it could sound that way) - all I need for my disposable income to disappear and have to scale back to a $50 a month beer budget is a couple of kids. I don't have any children, and any parent on here would be able to tell you they cost a fortune. I am the first to admit I am very fortunate to be able to indulge in my hobby - but my point was in response to the post that it is likely young new beer kids who are likely to be the 'screw you all I am hoarding' people.
The average college kid can't bank roll massive hoards of rare beer - if you want to pick any group of people who would have the means to stockpile masses of the most desirable beer, look no further than yuppie hipster DINKs in their 30s (hey, I know what I am).

I definitely have hoarding tendencies, but that's only because this latest wave of beer mania is moving too fast for me to drink them (drinking a different smoke beer more often than is healthy), along with the fact that I've recently moved and lost all my beloved beer moocher disciples. In my defense, I have, oh, 50 beers under the roof, with only a few duplicates. Now I wonder if I'm a hoarder, or an eclectic collector with the intention of drinking to excess.

I picked up 6 bcbs and 2 bcbcs this year, but to me calling someone a hoarder = jealous. Quit crying because someone received more beer than you. The world has more serious issues.

you know I think that is a fine thing. I understand people like doing Vintage Verticals. This involves storing. I am currently storing a beer for me and a buddy that we will open in 5 years.

the problem comes in with people's attitudes and intentions. The whole "ohh look at my cellar/closet/display of rare beers. How cool am I!" thing is what gets me. It is beer. Enjoy it as it is meant. Enjoy it with friends. Appreciate it. Share it. Save it for a special occasion. Trade it for other delicious beers. Just don't try to use as a currency for social value.

OR honestly, do. Who am I to say what is right or wrong for each person? You do you. Just hopefully you don't hurt someone else's ability to grow in beer knowledge and enjoy tasty beverages.

Thanks for the update, I wasn't sure there were other issues.

This is a hobby/enthusiast site, we all know there are bigger problems on our tiny, blue rock. But, we are all into our chosen hobby, and when one enthusiast intentionally fucks over a fellow enthusiast, just for his own personal jollies, that's fucked up.

As I said upthread, we all have our own conscience. If you can comfortably look in the mirror, OK. Personally, I have a different take on it. I'm in my shoes, no one else's.

If you plan to drink great. Share even better. Sell or take hostage to trades... You're ruining it for everyone.

I said in San Diego jack***. You don't paint a pretty picture for people living in Kentucky.

I wasn't speaking to your comment directly. My comment was about this post in general. A good friend of mine lives in San Diego I am in that area all the time. I'll bring a bcbs next time I'm out there and split it with you even after you called me a jack... #southernhospitality

I chose "more than 5." I personally rarely buy more than 2-3 bombers of any one beer at a time but I know I've bought 4-5 of one-off beers that were never to be brewed again (Beachwood's Pride of cHops comes to mind). But I drank every single one of them, too.

I was going to choose "No limit as long as you intend to drink it," but I guarantee there are people on here who have every intention of drinking every beer they've managed to scrounge up but never actually get around to it. I've seen pictures of peoples' cellars that made me think there was no way they were ever going to be able to drink all that beer (but I'm sure if you asked them, they'd be in denial about it).

Buying beer with the intention to trade it is OK with me with one caveat--if you already know who it's going to. If, however, you're buying multiples upon multiples with the intention of trading them at some future time to, as yet, unknown individuals then you sir (or ma'am), are a hoarder.

Here we go again. If you are going to generalize, let's at least be honest about what generalizing would like when it comes to being born in the late '80's vs. born in the '50's-'70's. The last generation calling the present/upcoming one the "me" generation when the former decimated the environment, caused worldwide economic and housing market collapses due to greed, and never voted for gay marriage because equality and others happiness weren't more important than your feelings of disgust or YOUR personal religious beliefs is absurd. Additionally, generalizing like this is ridiculous and uncalled for in the first place. Selfishness is pervasive in our entire culture. I would just like for selfishness to be minimized in the ever-growing craft beer culture. I don't need to be 40 years old to know not to be a dick.

Wow. So many assumptions. Most in their early '20's have plenty of bills to pay and a statistically lower income to pay those bills. Many work, go to college, and have bills to pay. If they're out of college they are likely working full time or looking for a job and are in even less of a position to buy limited releases. I know being a parent is an even more serious time commitment, but really either group can make the time if they so desired. It's up to the individual whether it's worth their time waiting in lines for beer, and of course doing so may not always be the responsible choice, especially when kids are involved.

But hey, this isn't really what the thread's about, no matter what age you are if you try and snag extra bottles of a limited release, no matter the means, knowing full well there's a line behind you, you are an inconsiderate person, and that's something I think we can agree on.

Can't possibly like this enough - I am pushing toward 40 (shocks me to even type that) so I grew up through the power hungry 80's. I go to work and see the people at the top of the company who are all in their 40-60's and some of them are fantastic people, and some of them are, well, dicks. Greedy, aggressive, crush the competition and get to the top dicks... Has nothing to do with age and everything to do with attitude.
