Hey guys I've just recently started making an hour and a half drive to get super fresh awesome selection with stellar service once a month instead of going to my local store, with older beer, somewhat rude service, and only about 25% of that selection once a week. How many of you guys only make Hauls for your beer and don't pick up local

There's 3 local to me--less than 5 minute drives to each--but like you, about once a month/every 6 weeks or so, I go to the Chicago north side (hour-ish drive) to make a stop at 2 shops to pick up stuff I cant get in my parts. Plus, they randomly break out good stuff like BCBS for tastings, so that's fun.

Local. Why? I live about an hour north of NYC and there are plenty of options within a 10 mile radius. It's one of the perks in living in a populated area. Of course, I pay more for my beer living here but you can't have everything.

I live in Brooklyn, NY and don't own a car. So local vs haul is like the difference of buying a beer in downtown Brooklyn vs buying one in midtown Manhattan

Local like 99% of the time. However if my local selection sucked, I'd have no problem going the other way.

I used to live in the Florida Keys and had no choice but to make hauls. Now i live in Miami and shop somewhat local.

Mostly local, but I pack light on road trips, so there's room for hauling stuff back home.

Local for me, about 20 miles from house but along route for work and other endeavors. Sounds like you are making best of your options though - whatever works, right?

Local. I figure, if I don't know what's being sold on the far side of town (45+ minutes away), I don't know what I'm missing out on. Ignorance is bliss (especially for my wallet).

i do annual trips to a different region around the country (beer runs disguised as family vacations) and come back with a trunk load of beer that serves as my special occasion stash for the year but also frequent my local outstanding store for releases that hit our market. so, yes to both?

Blessed to live in an area where I can find pretty much whatever is going to be available in Florida. That said, I most often go "hyperlocal" and just have beers at a local brewery.

Local but make a special trip every few months to restock. I did get to know my local shops craft delivery day, the beer guy and got on the call list for new seasonals.

Local. I only have to drive 10-15 minutes to get to the best store(s) in the city.

I'm lucky to live just outside of Portland. I get most of my beer direct from the brewer.

Do both regularly. Not unusual for me to take a 3hr round trip to find some different beer offerings.

Both. I hit a couple of store every week or so, and a couple of stores every month or so. I have the luxury of having good stores both near and far, and they seem to get in different stuff, so it's worth maintaining a rotation, as such, between them all.

Usually, I go mostly local. Sometimes I will venture a bit farther to a bigger store with better selection, and every now and then I will go on a long trip to get beers I can't find in my area. Just depends on time and what is going on that week, month, etc.

Mostly local but when I'm out of town I like to see what's available. I was in Wisconsin over Christmas and came back with 3 cases of different New Glarus offerings. Score.
