I live in Queens and the Poconos.

For the most part, I purchase all of my beer at Shangy's in Emmanus PA, Wardell's in Phillipsburg NJ, and Tanczo's in Bethlhem. 1 hour away from home in the Poconos and a good 2 hours from NYC.

Shangy's, as hyped up as it is for being a beer superstore actually sells outdated old beer, but they have access to brands that aren't available, or aren't yet familiar to the old time distribution channels in the Poconos.

There is actually a great selection of beer in 2015 in NYC thanks to Union and Remarkable Liquids distribution platforms. The only problem is that there is a 20-35% markup on everything in NYC compared the Pennsylvania.

And many smaller breweries in NY have all their contract brewing done by Stoudt's and Sly Fox, then import it back to NYC, and markup the prices anyway.

Queens Lager and Growler Bits and Bites and perfect examples.

Would love to make the trips to Victory, Troeg's, Pizzaboy, Tired Hand's etc.. but it's not always easy finding a designated driver who has as much interest in brewing culture.

Oh, definitely both. Fortunately, I've got lots of options fairly close by. I kind of rotate growler fills at a few breweries nearby, government store, and a few private stores. I don't make it to the best beer stores in town very often, 'cause I can't afford to.

Mostly local, as there's a handful of decent bottle shops near where I live.

Occasionally, a slight haul, meaning a 30-minute drive each way, to hit up one of two giant "we order everything we can get" stores.

More occasionally, a "haul" out to Chicago or Iowa to visit my girlfriend's friends and family, where I pick up only beer that doesn't exist anywhere near home.

I mostly drink what I can find locally in Missouri and across the river in Illinois. i do have periodic trips to Michigan and Indiana to visit family and sporadic vacations like next week's trip to Florida.

I usually drink local, with the exception of heavy trading. I do like taking big haul long distance road trips. This weekend Missoula Montana!!

I take a road trip with the family once a year. Last two years totaled just over 7000 miles of driving. I hit every friggin place I could that had good beer on the way. This year 2300 miles through the gulf coast states along with FL, GA, SC, NC, Tenn, etc. I will haul all the beer I can again. I have a pretty damn good selection here in Houston, but the hauls have been so worth the trips.

I buy 80-ish percent of my beer at the same local store. About 10 minutes from home. While traveling for work though, I typically try to find out what store/brewery is closest to where I'm going and always wind up grabbing at least a six pack of something I can't get at home.

I buy mostly local on a regular basis, however for special purchases a "haul" is still only about 30-40 minutes away.
Living in the country means 30 minute drives are really not considered long hauls.

Locally I can get 95% of what I can get a hr and 1/2 away. However, when I do drive that far it's to alpine and I try to load up as much as possible.
