If it's good drink it, who cares what season it is...

The primary reason is competition for retail shelf space. The breweries who provide them early are basically guaranteed shelf space. The 'stragglers' may or may not get retail shelf space.

    Cheers!

    Try Alewerks Pumpkin Ale.

It blows Cigar City's Great Gourd and Schlafly's Pumpkin Ale out of the water.

Have to note that I haven't tried Weyerbacher's pumpkin offering yet. Really want to, though.

Since the talks have started; 21st Amendment He Said; mix the 2; and it's wonderful. ST Pumking; I know it's early, but after all of the saisons, whites, sours etc. It'll be a nice change of pace. Love them all; bring it!

I am glad I taste beer with my tongue and not a calendar. You see, my tongue does not care what the date is and damn it I like Pumpkin beers.

This is why breweries release them early. The first to market gets the maximum novelty and the longest time to sell their pumpkin beer before sales die on Oct. 31.

I buy it as soon as I can get it. I drink it when its fall. Most of the good pumpkin beers are rather hard to find in my area...So I buy often, but drink when weather conditions are optimal. Still have a case of pumking from last year...can't wait to see how its held up over the year.

I totally agree with you. This is especially true for those who are unfamiliar with what's out there. Personally, I buy the same two pumpkin beers every year (Pumking and Schlafly's) and I might buy a random single of one I've never had before just so I can review it.

I drank a bottle of it about 2 months ago and it was good.

I hope not. It's just too early. I enjoy a good pumpkin beer, but I also enjoy the novelty that it's an early fall kind of thing.

If you think about it from a business/marketing point of view, it totally makes sense. It's like when you see Christmas decorations right after Halloween. The longer and earlier everything is out, the more they can sell (theoretically). And since craft beer is so popular now, it's going to follow the same seasonal trends at stores. The only problem I have is that, unlike Christmas items that tend to stick around somewhat close to the Holidays, pumpkin/fall beers are completely cleaned out well in advance of Sept/Oct when I'd prefer to enjoy them. Put them out in July? Fine. Just at least try to brew them through October!

Schlafly's is better. However, the sneaky 2nd best pumpkin beer is from Crown Valley in Missouri.

I've been making this point for a while now. It wasn't that long ago that buying an apple or an orange at the local market in January was unheard of, yet somehow, those fruits have transcended the seasons as globalization and refrigeration allowed us to have 'fresh' fruit year-round. Other foods, like pumpkin, never made it out of their season, even though most pumpkin foods, like pies, muffins, soups and others, are all made with canned pumpkin that knows no season whatsoever.

Also, for all the Sam Adams haters out there... They weren't first this year, and in fact, rarely are first, so stop blaming them on seasonal creep.

I used to care about when pumpkin beers were released, but then I moved to Florida. Now it never feels like fall, so I say bring them on any time! The more Good Gourd I can get my hands on, the happier I am!
