Want to laugh? I did a pumpkin Beer bar Crawl last year in the beginning of October and to my surprise every bar was OUT of Pumpkin beers by then.
I understand them coming out in a sense. Once one seasons beers are bottled and sold the next seasons beer gets bottled and sold, but these seasonals have become a see it, buy it, drink it till its gone epidemic. I try to hold on to them until the season is here, or at least close.
Personally, I have a deal with my distributor to let me know when Whole Hog Pumpkin comes in where I will buy 3 cases and hold on to them until mid to late September.

Wish the ST Pumking labels weren't so cheap looking. Last year's bottles looked way better. :/ hope the taste didn't go down. Won't buy one until the summer ends.

Why? Who cares? It's still July, one month into summer, and still roasting hot here in Boston. It should be any day now though. Haven't seen anything yet, but things could change next week. Not crazy about this time of the year either.

Fresh pumpkins? I bet half of those beers don't use pumpkin at all.

Southern Tier Pumking and Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale have mad it's way to NYC. It's way too early to drink this stuff right now. But Im moving to Chicago, and luckily Southern Tier distributes that way. Weyerbacher does not, so I have started stocking up though.

Dogfish Head uses real Pumpkin. I can't speak for the other breweries though.

Picked up Uinta's jacked pumpkin, really solid. Think I like it better than the Pumking.

This might be true if they also didn't stop production of fall beers early to start production of winter beers, then stop production of winter beers early to start production of spring beers, etc. They're not increasing the amount of time seasonal beers are produced, they're just shifting that time to the wrong season.

Just curious what pumking is going for. It was 7.50 at my local shop, wondering if that's the norm or not

Simple - Marketing and money. Pumpkin brews tend to appeal to a wide array of consumers beyond craft beer fans. And the breweries make money from the sales.

I've already bought Pumking (shame on me). As far as I am concerned, no other pumpkin beer matters. 2014 Pumking is more flavorful than it has been in years.

That said I absolutely loathe having fall seasonals out so early. The whole point of a seasonal is to enjoy a style that matches the weather outside. I get the whole marketing and product placement arguments. Frankly, I think that none of that should override the customers' ability to enjoy a beer at the peak of freshness during the appropriate season.

... from food service size cans, so it depends on how one defines "real" in this case since the canned pumpkin puree is obviously made from real pumpkins. One of the Brew Masters episodes even featured shots of brewhouse employees emptying cans into the brew kettle using plastic scrapers. Supposedly Caligione even mentions the amount of cans used per brew in the episode - "...36 cans of pumpkin for 600 barrels of ale."

It appears that some of the TTB's recent changes about how beers with what used to be considered "non-standard" ingredients are approved and labeled is going to change that. According to TTB Ruling 2014 - Examples of Adequate and Inadequate Designations in Accordance with Trade Understanding it will be considered a "misleading designation" to label beers that use only "nutmeg, cinnamon, and allspice" with the terms "Pumpkin" or "Pumpkin flavored" (pg. 2).

Seems that the "pumpkin" beer availablity should last until Thanksgiving, since most of the beers get their flavor influences from pumpkin pie, the traditional dessert for that holiday, and not from the pumpkin "jack-o-lantern" decorations used at Halloween.
