Have IPAs Become Commoditized?

    Maybe what the OP is talking about isn't true commoditization by definition, but the concept is a pretty good metaphor for the sense one gets that IPAs are interchangeable. I've gotten pretty burned out on these beers that basically just seem like a vehicle for showcasing the hop variety the brewer chose. Yeah, they're all marginally different, and some are much better than others, but in some sense, they do become interchangeable in my mind when I head to the store. There are so many well-made IPAs on the market that when I do feel like drinking something hoppy, I tend toward the freshest arrival rather than sticking with one brand consistently.
