What are my options? Is there anything there aside from farms and livestock? I am only in for a day. Where do I get food and where do I find a decent selection? I know they aren't going to be selling much in terms of selection but I am easy to please.
I can't speak to bottle shop options, but three places with good food and a solid tap selection are JL Beers (burgers), Rhombus Guys (pizza) and Wurst Bier Hall (sausages).
JL Beers is your friend... get the chips with your burger and they usually have as good of stuff on tap as you can get in Fargo. if you jump over to Moorhead you can get MN beers like Surly and Indeed.
You'd be surprised what you can find. I routinely find things there that fly off the shelves in Minneapolis. It's getting pretty solid these days, really.
You will be surprised, there is a lot more to Fargo than people may think. Selection is a lot better than it has been and just across the river is Moorhead, MN where you have more beer including Surly and many of the MN brews. Here is a website I run on beer news and events in the area plus listings of breweries plus bars and restaurants with a beer focus - http://www.fmbeer.com/ Some more info on Fargo: http://www.startribune.com/local/261393961.html
A couple good stores around too if you want bottles/cans. Idk if you have time. Bridgeview in Moorhead and Bernie's in Fargo are my usual spots when I'm in Fargo.
Fargo Brewing is doing an awesome job- I like the Iron Horse Pale Ale and the Woodchipper IPA is very good as well!
