Have you moved, or considered moving, based on a local beer scene?

It's not the only factor, but I'm likely moving to San Diego in 2 years, not in small part due to the great bars, bottles I'll have access to, and the breweries. Obviously the weather is another huge appeal. The most recent New York winter really pushed me over the edge. I've also found myself imagining living in places I'd never previously considered, pretty much only due to beer selection. Places such as Michigan and Ohio. Has anyone else considered this? It'd be especially cool to hear from someone who moved (even if temporary) in large part because of a whole new world of beer being opened to them.

Milwaukee local here. Great beer scene here already, but have been thinking about heading out west. Seattle, Oregon, California all look very appealing. The winters here are seriously starting to take a toll on my sanity

Las Vegas as the bars/stores never close. Wait that was a movie.

Portland used to tempt me, then I went to Bend.

I don't think I've ever been in a position to move simply because I prefer a different location. My moves have always been because of school/work; I just end up places. However, if you do have that freedom, thats sweet. I suppose the beer scene is a part of culture, which seems like a good "pro" for moving somewhere. And from someone who grew up in CA, you could do a whole hell of a lot worse than San Diego!

If I could I'd relocate to the Tampa Bay Area.

Why don't you have that freedom? I feel like I'm one of those people who lacks "freedom" too, but you know what, I'm packing up my stuff and moving. I have a great job here in NJ but I really dislike it here, and like others have said, this past winter was the end of it for me. Portland, here I come, and yes, the beer scene played a role in our settling on PDX as our destination.

When I moved to the PNW 14 years ago, beer was certainly a factor. I knew I was moving somewhere, (after 40 years of lake-effect snow, I knew I was shoveling my roof for the last time), and a vacation visit convinced me. Beer wasn't the top factor, but it wasn't 6th either.

Just bought a vacation home in Asheville, N.C. There's dozens of other reasons to buy property there, but I can say that the beer scene helped a lot!

I now am considering a move, with beer one of the 6 main factors for me. I don't really want to move, but may be forced. Vermont has a bunch going for it, and beer is certainly high on the list.

I certainly never moved to a place because of the beer, but I certainly crossed a lot of places off the list because there wasn't any good beer.

Yes, it was a sort of "veto" factor. I wanted there to be at least a decent distribution system, so even if the local beer sucked then at least I could drink regional or national craft beers. So it was a reason for NOT living in certain places, with possible places being a large range of choices based on other factors.

In my younger years I guess this could have been a possibility, but my wife, daughter and job take precedent over worrying about living somewhere with good beer.

Nope. Although distribution would suck some places, I can't say that'd be a deciding factor fortunately.

^ agree. Most cities will have good local beer. If not, start brewing yourself.

I moved here despite the beer scene still miss Colorado. I made the move for family reasons. Once my boys are done with school (one of the main reasons we moved here), I'm outta here despite the slowly improving beer scene...
