They had Younger on, announced when it would be on (date) and then said that they will hand out tickets at 11 AM and open at noon to ensure order. Ended up being a line 300+ deep at 9:30 AM, and they went up and down the line with a video camera on Facebook showing off how long the line was and saying how awesome it was all these people showed up. By 11 AM, no tickets. A friend and I (about 140 in line) left to got to Lucky's figuring we were going to get shut out. At 1 PM got a text from my friend (100th or so in line) saying they never handed out tickets, never told anyone about a cut off number and that he got shut out as they ran out at around the 80th person or so, mostly due to massive line cutting from people that had no idea what beer release etiquette is.

Provisions fans - As you may have already heard, our friends at Haven Gastropub will be taking over our shop in the very near future and in conjunction, they will also be taking over this facebook page to use for their own Provisions.

We're certain that you are just as excited to see what the guys at Haven do to revitalize the store as we are, but we did want to let you know that we at The Bruery will no longer be in control of this page.

While we recommend you continue paying attention to what Provisions is posting, we also encourage you to like our brewery's page at The Bruery and also our page for The Bruery Tasting Room in order to stay up to date on what we have going on ourselves. We hope to run into you over a pint at both our own tasting room in Placentia and the new Provisions shop in Orange when it opens!

I'm surprised by all the negativity about Haven. I've always liked the place. I thought that the prices and food were in line with similar places in the area like The Playground and Chapter One: Modern Local. I understand if this was due to the PtY thing, as I'd probably hold a grudge too. But if it's something else, I'm not sure I get it. Enlighten me.

I didn't even bother going to the pty release cause I knew it was going to be a shit show. First one out of the gate, wasn't it? Either way, I just don't dig their food. Went in with a couple of friends for their suckling pig dinner and after I felt like I waaaaaaaaay over paid for the meal and wasn't even filled.

Then the beer selection was a sort of joke. Having to go through five choices on what was printed on the menu before hitting something they actually had in stock was tragic. Update your menu if it's so out of date.

To me, it's the prices that really bug me and I can't see them NOT charging an arm and a leg for shit you could probably get over at the Packer's joint just a mile or so away. Keep the pinky up snobbery, it's not worth the up sell price they're charging you.

When they first opened I thought it was a nice enough place and even enjoyed some of the food. I was just happy to see good beer being served in the circle. Then I realized how much they were charging for beers, I once payed around $13 for a pour of Dupont Avec Les Bon Voeux. I stopped going for a while instead of getting grossly over charged. Then Provisions opened and there was another place serving good beer in the circle but for reasonable prices, so I spent my money there. Though I must admit when venturing back in to Haven recently it seemed the prices had dropped ever so slightly. So while I don't hold them in the highest regard, I am hopeful for their version of Provisions and will reserve judgement.

There food is okay, no where near as good or as innovative as the Playground. The prices i feel are higher than the Playground as well. As far as Chapter One i have been there once and it felt too commercial for me and i didn't think the taplist was anything special. The big thing for me is they are just so full of themselves I can't stomach even going in there and I live only four or five blocks away.

That was kind of my thought regarding pricing. Their pricing seems pretty spot on for similar places in So Cal. I mean hell, ever gone to Crow Bar in CDM? They have great Newport Beach pricing.... haha

Sure a release/tap night could've been handled differently, but at a certain point it seems like a lot of people are just hating beyond the necessary amount.

None of this bitching matters. I live a block away from Haven in Orange and walk or drive past it 5-7 days a week. It is always busy. Think Haven is full of themselves? Plenty of customers with a little extra disposable income are also full of themselves and rather enjoy showing their willingness to pay $11 for a beer that should cost $7 at most. Why would they change anything for BA's? Profits rule.

I agree with everything you said. I never said they should cater to BA's, and at the end of day, for some more than others, Profits do indeed rule. I just prefer to spend my money elsewhere.

btw - if you live that close we should share a beer or five, unless of course you are a Haven spy. I'm on Maple between Harwood and Cleveland

How was the Younger release at Haven in Orange? Same sh!te as Pasadena?

I went to Haven in Orange back in 2011. It was okay. Food was okay. Beer selection was okay. They did not have the first 3 bottle choices we wanted. Price was higher than normal. But it is in the city of Orange and in the Orange Circle. So. . . . haven't been back since. Even the half dozen times I've visited the Bruery Provisions. Why? Cause I've got the best damn place to go to. . . .BWSB right down PCH from my place.

As for the fiasco in Pasadena. I experience the same up at KRBC for the last Citra release. Line cutting and almost did not get a ticket because of it. So the next day they passed out numbers 3-4 hours before opening assuming that those who showed up late to cut in line wont get any bottles. Problem solved.

Not having the first few bottle choices seems to be a running theme. Maybe they should get someone to update their menus a bit more. I can understand one not being there, as shit during the day changes. But 3, and in my case up to 5. that's just fucking lazy and you feel bait and switched at that point.

I've always thought the food prices were about the same, but the beer prices at The Playground are definitely cheaper. I love the way all the beers are $5, but simply in varying volume dependent on the beer.

I've been to Chapter One twice. The first time was using a $50 discount Groupon. Chapter One apparently didn't scan the certificate, so my second visit at Chapter One featured a $50 discount Groupon that looked surprisingly like the first. :grinning:

Now that I think about it, I've rarely order beers at Haven. Their Old Fashioned's are fucktastic, so I stick to those. If I examined the bill though, they're probably $37 each.
