Buying 5 cases does not make you a bad person. Blaming people on the internet and shaming them for buying the amount of beer the brewery allowed them to might though.

Yes, not quite up to par as earlier batches but still pretty good. Not a lot of barrel, typical hoppy American style bwine

As expected I showed up at 11 and got no Hazel's. Judging by the amount that showed up even putting a 2 case limit would've left people without some.

I at least got a crowler of HN and a case Colossal. Better luck next time.

I'm with you 100%. I find the whining on their facebook page pretty damn funny too. Just order some trophies OSA; next time people get shut out you can give them one for showing up too late :grinning:.

Regarding the Fire Marshall; I'm guessing one of the other shop owners (see: older lady with the boutique) likely called. We caught some shit for being in her entryway (had anybody actually wanted to go in said boutique, I would've gladly moved to the side...as I'm sure anybody else would too). She didn't seem pleased...at all. (Add her to the list of people upset lol).

I got there at 4:30a.m. after driving from Flint, 11th & 12th in line, got 4 cases and a few others. The bottle share was killer and everyone was enjoying the wait.

Oh sure it doesn't make you a bad person and it's 100% on Oddside to set restrictions, but it still blows my mind that people will max out such an absurd allocation. It's not even major trade bait. 5 cases? Are you hooking up your 10 closest friends? Planning on drinking it everyday for months? Have a gigantic cellar? Looking to make a quick buck on craigslist? My god that is a lot of a single beer.

I'd seriously be interested in seeing a breakdown of what happens with the 5 cases, if anyone is willing.

I heard a Ypsi stripper was knocked unconcious last night when a guy "made it rain" Hazels Nuts on her. Now she's suing Oddside's. Gonna have to add her to the list of pissed off people too. #StrippersForCraftLimits

5 cases= 120 bottles. I picked up for me and seven others. 120÷8=15 bottles roughly pp. Next Hazel's release is probably a year out (hopefully less with the short time it spends in barrels). 366/days this year ÷ 15 bottles of Hazel's Nuts = ~24.
I'm not sure about you but a bottle of Hazel's every 24 days doesn't seem like a rediculous amount. Shit, I drank one yesterday and gave away a couple to our babysitter. Now I only get one every 30.5 days. Damn, I knew I should have bought more...

To do the math if someone kept all five cases it'd still only be a Hazel's every three days. If it's your favorite beer I don't see that being too difficult of a task.
If you struck out completely send me a pm, I've got a bottle for you. (Shit now I've only got 11 left...)

I'm not trying to shame anyone, and if you're buying for other people that's one thing. But if you're just buying it for yourself to scalp in the parking lot that's another. 5 cases? Really? What are you even going to do with that much beer? I guess I'd also like to know...

Just my opinion, but there are a small number of beer groups located around Michigan. I don't know for fact but I wouldn't be surprised if friends were simply buying for friends. One hand washes the other.

I purchased three cases of Hazel's and one case of Colossal. One for me, one for a buddy (he came with me to the last two Hipster releases but stayed home with his wife who just had knee surgery) and the last case was to give four packs to some family members and donate to some local charity auctions that I am involved in. The case of Colossal was for me and my buddy.

My guess is most people buying 5 cases are hooking up friends. If I had some buddies going I'd absolutely have them hook me up if they could and vice versa. I was bitter over the Hipster release but was able to trade for some, and honestly that worked just fine. I'll probably try and trade for a 4-pack of Hazel if I can, and that's better than nothing. Gotta hustle these days one way or another!

Thanks for the serious reply. I'm from Illinois and have never been to Odd side, so no need to send me a bottle.

IMO a system where the first people in line have the opportunity to purchase more than they can reasonably drink is a little goofy. Obviously it's not all for personal consumption, and so it's almost acknowledging and encouraging a black market. Even if it's just friends selling to friends at face value, it shuts out people who go through the effort to attend the release.

Whatever though, seems like a lot of medium sized breweries have at least one colossal failure of a release, get a ton of flak on social media, and learn from it. The rare beer scene is nuts and continues to reach new heights.

One case to one of my small beer groups. Another case already divvied up among some friends and a few pre-trades. The other three? Six bottles a month for the next year! Nothing like a BA stout after mowing the lawn or weeding....

Anyone know what's left today? I may make the drive if Colossal Oversight and Funk Soul Brother remain.

I couldn't tell you, but I'll be working in Grand Haven for the next few months starting tomorrow. I'll try to stop in tomorrow and give you guys an update.

On a side note, got invited to a Super Bowl party with my Wife's church friends (see: a gringo (me) and 20 Hispanics). I was in charge of the beer, and Odd Side Ales Chocolade Koffie Stout was definitely the highlight for them.

That's what craft beer is about to me... Getting people to try (and appreciate) beers they wouldn't have otherwise tried.

GO BRONCOS!!!! (Peyton Manning is THE class act of all sports - One of the handful of guys I'd love to have an opportunity to meet, and thank for being such a positive role model to kids - and adults for that matter) :grinning:.

Now that I've gotten this thread back off topic, we can all move on to the next crazy release .
