Not saying it is right or wrong when people want to buy beers just to trade, but when you're given 5 cases of something and you are "new money", you tend to jump at what you can and try to trade for all of the things you drool for. It hardly is just a MI thing, though. Seems like the first few people in line (i.g., side project) are the ones immediately trading/selling.

As for using the Term FMB - FIB was used FAR before the beer scene adopted it.

I think trading, at its core, has actually majorly helped the beer scene. What trading is becoming now (and merging with the secondary market) is hurting beer. Trading started out as a way of people sharing brews with other people that they normally didn't have access to, opening up new doors, tasting new flavors, and getting brewers to experiment. It used to be more about sharing, whereas now too many people want to "win" and treat it as currency. I'd rather live the rest of my life drinking Breakfast Stout out of a bottle than spend 800+ on a KBBS.

Ha-I was thinking the same thing at the release...silly Michiganders hoarding hazelnut beer due to continued BCBS MI distro shortage

Actualy its due to the fact it's just better than BCBS and its variants this year.

I'd take it over reg too, sadly that was my favorite this year, even over the variants I tried (didn't get Rare or Prop). If next years BCBS run is as bad as this year's then I'd say Anheuser did its job to destroy the brand.

Sure there there are issues with bcbbw/bcbcs (for the first time?), but I think it's ridiculous to say that regal/Prop/rare are destroying the brand. Also, you said you didn't try Prop/rare, so basically you are saying that you didn't like regal and then you go on to say that AB is ruining the brand? Plenty of people are enjoying this year's variants, including myself.

This year's regular is so good I don't even think about the variants imo. And "sadly" is hardly the word I would use in reference to an amazing beer that helped create a "scene" before variants even existed.

I don't get the comparisons to BCBS at all. These are two very different beers.

This was kinda my initial point...people at this release acting like they had scored the next Nutulhu or something...that being said...if that beer is ever bottled, I cannot even imagine how early the FIBs would start lining up.

Personally, beer releases nowadays are unfortunately not worth the "effort" anymore.
