I hope this is the correct spot to post this.

I am looking for some suggestions to try some hazy IPA. Ones that have a similar look to Sand City One or other of these NE IPAs.

I'm loookg for domes that would be readily available for me to find at my beverage places and that aren't over the top expensive.

I enjoy a variety of IPAs but have never tried any of these. After reading all of the reviews on beers like this I wanted to try some to see what all of the hype is about.

    Any help is appreciated.

Weldwerks DDH juicy bits. No distro to NY, but as good a reason as any to go on holiday.

Well, a lot of the hazy NE ipas are brewery releases that aren't readily available at stores which I believe is part of their appeal to many people. Although I'm not familiar with your local beer distribution and there may be an option someone can point you toward.

I have actually never been and after looking them up I am maybe 15 minutes away from their brewery from my job. I can walk to Threes Brewing from my job in 2 minutes so I'm going to have to check both out in the coming months.

Again thanks to all for the help and input in my search for an expanded IPA pallet

Definitely check both out. Also many Grimm IPAs, which you should be able to get in BK when they are released. Also Singlecut and Barrier have some distro, so you should be able to try those as well. Plenty of good hazy, NEIPAs in NYC.

honestly, you aren't going to get much better than sand city. In my opinion, they are making some of the best IPAs in the country (which I guess means in the world?). Even other half can't compare to sand city...though some of those double dry hopped other half brews are absolutely fantastic.

If you are up for a road trip, head out to mass and stop at treehouse and trillium and get ready to drink your face off for a few weeks. The unfortunate truth about those magical IPAs is that they really can't hang much longer than a month. I know I'm gonna get killed as a snob for that statement and I've had some 6 week olds that were great, but hops fall off and for juice bombs, they can still be good, but REALLY lose their magic in 4-6 weeks. I suggest keeping your eye on sand city social media and hit up all their releases and just drink their brew (they surprised dropped some cans today). They release regularly enough that you can always have fresh stuff and they are worldclass enough that you can trade them in person or via mail for other IPAs (especially if you work in BK and have access to city folk who don't have access to sand city) if you want variety...and worse case scenario you have 16 cans of sand city ipa - can think of worse problems to have.

stop being such an LI homer evan

in all seriousness though sand city is probably the closest to a "prototypical" NE IPA (i.e. like trillium or TH who i'd consider to be the barometer of "hazy NE IPA") that you can get in cans. Grimm also does very good stuff, but are certainly expensive and you have to run around NY to get cans. I think equilibrium is probably making the best IPAs in NY, but they are currently draft only until they open up their spot...but highly suggest seeking them out. there's really nowhere you can get cans regularly at a local beer store other than grimm, but those sell out incredibly quickly at very low limits. I would also second the idea of just making a trip and going out to trillium/TH. you can leave trill with cases of multiple types of beer and be able to drink incredible IPAs at home for a while, and IMO is certainly worth the trek to get a great view of what the "style" really is.

For a beginner question, these last 2 posts nail it on the expert side; the breweries above (and honestly OH should be in the mix as well, as many of their beers are world class, and I am guessing your original question about NE style haze is just a starting point for great IPAs) are all amazing and more to come. Following that advice is basically starting at the top, which is awesome and we are lucky to be able to access that so easily these days-- in NYC-LI area, as well as trips to CT and Boston (and many make the trek to Alchemist in VT, where you can get lots of their 3 world-class IPAs at $12.50 a 4-pack).
    A few things to add:
    1) ratings/reviews on Beeradvocate can be helpful (some of the posters on these forums are expert reviewers and I have learned a lot from them)... I find it a good way to learn before I drink and or/after I try. The "top 250 beers" on beeradvocate is fun, as is the top 100 for NY state, and you can also see the top 100 DIPA or top 100 IPA by reviewers
    2) The next step is to see if you can start to tell the difference between the different hops and styles
    3) Outside of these world-class breweries (where nearly everything they make is great, there are many very good IPAs in NY from local brewers-- Threes, Greenpoint, LIC, etc. The top beer or 2 from each of these is definitely worth a try And all the brewers seem to be getting better and better as they learn and adjust.
    4) The beer bars mentioned in this forum (nearly every day someone visiting asks for recommendations) come up time and time again, and if you are willing (and nice to the bartender), it can be a great way to try these-- Sand City (on occassion but hopefully more and more) and Equilibrium and Grimm and OH tend to be on tap frequently and that is a great way to keep trying without some of the dificulties of the drives or can chasing. All the best

They popped up in/around the city during NYC beer week; nonetheless, I hope we see more of Prison City. Their sour game is killer, and their IPA's meet your criteria

^went to Torst for the prison city taps, tried all six, Mass Riot was an awsome NE IPA but Riot in Santa Rosa (a west coast style DIPA, they described as a Pliny the elder homage) and the barleywine I cant remember the name of were really impressive

Thank you for all of the help. I will soon be taking a trip to Sand City and I also heard that Bluepoint might be making a NE style IPA. Otherhalf is always on tap at a bar by me so I will be checking them out as well.

Also just tried Gray Sail Captains Daughter last night as it was great. My local beverage place was able to acquire a few cases so I will be going back for more today.

in before people sh*t on bluepoint. Although they sold to ABINBEV (aka the evil empire) a few yrs ago, I still find the tasting room to be a pleasant experience where you get a lot of exclusive stuff. much like goose island, the tasting room is now more experimental then ever before and typically has better tasting versions of their most popular brews than you'll find in the bottle, since they are usually brewed onsite...it is a fun place. if you are making the hike, I'd recommend a stop a spider bite which should be a minor detour on your way to blue point.

Yes I agree with you I live close to both. As for bluepoint it's a great place to taste and try out a variety of beers 4/5 ofnwhats on tap is on bottled varieties and a majority of the time good quality beer. As for spider bite I started a thread a while ago I really enjoy the beers they make. The other breweries around here 1940s, brickhouse, etc. are decent but bluepoint and spiderbite are my favorites. Good varieties great atmosphere and always some good random experimental stuff on tap and small batch bottles of stuff.

They are going to do a release every month, same grist different hops. They told me last release that this month would be Southern Hemisphere hops which I assumed meant New Zealand but they just posted pics from a trip to South Africa hop farms so maybe it will be that.

Hazy bastard was solid, not quite sand city leek but certainly worth it given the 5 minute drive and 14 per 4 pack.
