Bayshore Beverage and Piccolo's are about it for bottle shops. Waterstreet Bar and Grill has some good beers from time to time.
Not sure which way you are coming from but there are also some good shops in either direction around Sandusky. Also, In Sandusky: Off-premise Bayshore Beverage ComMunity Markets Dicks Carryout On-premise Dalys Irish Pub Water Street Bar and Grille Off-remise in Port Clinton Bassetts IGA
If you're coming from another state, I would suggest making a long weekend out of it and spending one day in Cleveland. It's only an hour away and can easily fill your beer needs.
Assuming you're taking 80/90 to get there, stop in Toledo for bottle shops if coming from the West, Stop in Cleveland for bottle shops, beer bars, and good breweries if coming from the East.
OP I did a little research and found a few stores in Toledo that look worthy of checking out, if you happen to be coming from the west. Anderson's: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4616/view=beerfly Joseph's: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4197/view=beerfly These two seem to be the best in town and are 1/2 mile apart (according to reviews). I know I will plan on hitting these up on my trip out from Chicago. Anyone know what is available in Toledo in the summertime? White Rajah? Columbus IPA?
Bottle shops in Toledo (not including the two mentioned above, which are north): North: Marinos - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/18451/view=beerfly Andersons Market - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/17492/view=beerfly Middle: Beer & Wine Cave - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/19059/view=beerfly Andersons Maumee - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4615/view=beerfly South: Aficianado - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/15864/view=beerfly If you need any more advice on buying in Toledo, PM me.
I'm not a big Joseph's fan although they've been around the longest. Marino's (check bottle dates) is my preferred store but you can never go wrong with Anderson's. If you're taking the Turnpike, the Maumee Anderson's is real close to an exit. Also, if you have time to stop for food and a drink, Swig in Perrysburg isn't too far off the trail and very worth it.
I'm flying in to Cleveland and renting a car to head to Cedar Point. Not sure which direction all that is, but if you could give me a one stop shop place that'd be great. Is 3 Floyds available in the area?
That's a tough one, but I would shoot one exit down 71 to Pearl Rd. and hit Heinen's in Middleburg Heights and then go down Pearl Rd another 1 1/2 miles to Southland Beverage(off of Smith road). After that, take 71 to 480 west and hit Fat head's for an early lunch(if you're inclined, it's 5 min off 480) on the way to Sandusky.
Brew Kettle would also be around the corner http://thebrewkettle.com/shop/ontap.asp. I don't buy beer at any chain grocery store, so I don't know if Giant Eagle or Heiniens has any 3 Floyds. Southland beverage is my store of choice as their bottles can be anywhere from $.50 to $2.00 cheaper than corporate chains. Anything specific you are looking for ?
Reopening this - never went on the original trip, but we will be there Aug 26th flying into Cleveland. All the same suggestions hold true? Just want to stop at a Brewery (probably Fat heads because it's close) and 1 bottle shop. Will only be in Cleveland for a day, then to Cedar Point for a day. Then back home.
Southland is closed now. Fat Heads production brewery is open now and near the airport (check their days/hours), otherwise the brewpub isn't far. Lakewood Lizardville and Rozis are pretty good bottle shops.
Yeah it looks like the Fat Heads production brewery in Middleburg Heights opens around 4 on weekdays. There aren't a whole lot of good bottle shops near that area without having to go out of the way to Strongsville/Brunswick area (Heinens/Royal Park Fine Wines) or the Lakewood area (Rozi's, Lizardville, Ross Craft Beers). However, if you take 71N to W 150th, those places in Lakewood aren't a bad option. Plus that'll put you close to 90W so you can hop on and take it all the way out to Sandusky. Or if you head to the Strongsville/Brunswick area, you'll be close to 80 so you can take that out to Sandusky as well.
